A Lesson by Victoria G

What this lovely course will cover.

Hi! So as writers, I'm assuming most of us are avid readers as well. When I go to read a book, I look for a good story line, something with suspense, but mostly I look for deep characters. Characters that if they were to be real people, I know them well enough that we could be best friends. Those types of characters make the best stories. Knowing their motives, what they look like, how they view the world, what party they vote for in politics, and what their favorite color is. You want to know your own characters so well, that they can literally start writing the story for you.

When I was in 5th grade, a famous author came to visit my school and help us write a story. We spent two days making our characters, and she told us that when she goes to write a book, that she creates a character in her mind and builds on it for an entire year. She embodies her characters. When she goes to the supermarket, she thinks "Oh, (insert character name here) would really like pears in the fruit salad, so I'll get some." Crazy sounding, I know, but it actually works. Try it sometime, not for a whole year, but for a day or two be a character that you created and see how well you really know them.

In this course, I'll show you how to create incredibly believable characters that will electrify your stories. We'll start from the outside in with physical looks, and then delve into what makes them tick, like hobbies, family life, best friends, love interests, career choices, and so much more. I'm looking forward to creating it. I'll add a lesson each week. Enjoy.
