You're a Writer.A Lesson by UnderestimatedIt's a crazy thing.So. You love writing. Good for you. You have been gifted with the ability to tell stories. You can either make people scream, laugh, cry, or have their hearts melt like butter. It's a beautiful thing!! But how do you start? What do you do? WHERE DO YOU BEGIN THE ADVENTUROUS JOURNEY OF WRITING? Well, here I am. First things first. If you read courses like there's no tomorrow so you can be absolutely perfect, your so wrong. Good writing does have order, a recipe, and a plan, but unique, thought provoking writing is a spontaneous thing. You can do just about everything a teacher says to do, but the one thing they can't teach you is being yourself. Let's say you wrote a book, CONGRATS, you followed the rules, made sure the grammar was right and separated the paragraphs perfectly. Well....that's no fun is it? Try writing a short story or poem, using spaces and font sizes to dramatize your work. Make it different, the words can get bigger as the emotion rises or the climax is at it's peak, or you can slant the words when the say the key word or phrase that means something. BE UNIQUE. Never, ever, ever, write like somebody else!!! Because you can't become that person from the inside out. You can't create ideas that the other person would create. The only way you'll be good is writing like yourself.Don't get me wrong, if you like vampires and werewolves, I'm not saying don't write that. I don't care if you like the way the writer writes her books, don't write them that way. During the course of writing, you'll see how your writing is different from others and your style will eventually slip into whatever your writing, whenever your writing. LOVE YOUR WRITING. Be proud. It's a beautiful thing to write, because it's one of the most powerful things in the world! It can change people! That does not mean write like you don't care what goes on the page, be careful, spend five minutes on that one word that you need to perfectly describe mashed potatoes!!!! I spend five minutes on nearly every sentence. And it's hard. Something that can really help you is a thesaurus. AUGH, I love that thing. So instead of using the word cold two times, you just say taciturn. Yeah. That's right. You might have no idea what that word meant, or maybe you did. Which makes me feel like a huge dumbo. Well, HOMEWORK!! Describe your style, the way you write, and how your different than others in comments below. Thanks for reading! Comments
