Unnamed Poem

Hi,

I don't usually wrte poetry but was inspired by Lorna's contest and the following came out. I really don't now how to rate it but thought I'd post it here. Please tell me what you think.

Society’s a place of painted smiles; while behind backs people b***h
Rules are made and judgements cast by the powerful and rich
People don their masks each day and suffer with the itch

It gets harder every day to play the part I’ve been assigned
I have to act a certain way to fit in with my kind
I struggle with the conflict between my people and my mind

People say that I am weird; they don’t have a clue
I just learned to see beyond their narrow points of view
I sacrifice acceptance to be one of a memorable few.

Right from the start I stood out from the manufactured clones
The ones that follow the same routines; the well-programmed drones
Only showing their frustration in a symphony of moans

They don’t know that rigid conformity stifles innovation
Anaesthesia; votes for women; pasteurization
All of these once opposed by a strict conformist nation.

So don’t laugh at the weirdo; the geeky kid you hate
People like us have a different role; a different type of fate
It’s us that learn to tilt our heads to set the world straight.

Exceptional poem. I've seen those that rhyme 2-lines, this is the first time I've seen one rhyme 3-lines in a row. That takes some real skill and talent. Well done !

Now if you can write one that in addition to these characteristics match movement, cadence, and syllables I will truly be floored with your linguistic ability. :)
