The Writer's Life Forum How do you come up with ideas ..

I've noticed that a lot of people on here like to write short stories. It got me wondering. How do you come up with ideas for your stories? Do you base them on your own life, on things you've read or seen, or do you have your own special method?

Personally, most of my stories are based off dreams I've had. However, sometimes I hear a particular sentence that catches my interest and I let my imagination run with it to figure out what happens next.
