Monster Boy

Monster Boy

A Poem by AbbyRafael

There was a boy

Whose smile on his lips were just curved lines on his wrists

And the voice in his head was twisted and drowning

And there was a monster calling and creeping

Who feasted on the bones of muffled urges and failed courage

And stalked the boy when he was sleeping

And all the boy wanted was

To wreak havoc among the stars

And graffiti the sky

But with claws, razor sharp

The monster twisted them through the boy's heart

Shattering the voice inside him

But the boy still lived

Floating between the jagged edges

Teasing hope and trapped between

The teeth of hellish loneliness

Until one day when the monster

Could no longer hold his hunger

He hunted the boy

And the boy stopped fighting

He was just too tired to try

And he let the monster swallow him

And as the boy died, his bones being feasted

By the monster beneath him

The boy looked down into the monster's eyes

And realized they were his own

Realized he was afraid of himself

This whole time

The boy took his last breath

Havoc- wreaked stars in his eyes
