Love?

Love?

A Poem by Alice Patinkin

Love, love, what are you?
So many objects claim your name
So many songs, so many games.

Love, where can I find you?
Should I look to magazines?
To the sultry movie scenes?

No.

Love, you are a soul
You are patience
You are kindness
You are the laughter of a friend
And the kiss of a child.

Love, you are here
In my heart
And in my smile
You are me when I look in the mirror
And see for myself
That there is beauty.

Great poem. I love the rhyme scheme in first two stanzas and the mid poem shift.

I really like this poem, plain and simple. There is SO much poetry dealing with love that romanticizes every aspect of it and a lot end up turning into ostentatious purple prose, but this poem is simple and refreshing and just plain pretty. Lovely!
