Perspective

Perspective

A Poem by AllauraRose
"

I have wondered and pondered this idea for a while.

"
One life is all you have
You see life through your eyes, and only yours
But how do others feel?
What is their story?

Not all heroes are recognized
The ones who have been a hero the whole time
We don't know their story
Or the face behind the mask

We can't read others minds and understand how they feel
We just assume their opinion

What about the ones that attempted to take their life?
Or the ones that went through with it?
Did we know how they felt as they tied the noose?
No, we can only help but wonder

What about the people you have affected?
For better or for worse
The ones whose life has changed once you came into it
We will never know unless they tell us

There are billions of people on this planet
Yet, we only have access to our thoughts
We are always in a limited perspective
No matter how far we dig into someone's mind

We take people for granted
Or lash out when we are mad
We make assumptions about their story
Who knows, they could have been hurt in the past?

So try to put yourself in other's shoes
You find out that they don't fit
So listen to everyone, and hear their story
You may meet a hero, a victim or a new friend

This poem is a really good piece of writing :), everyone just makes assumptions from first glance, and we never really delve deeper into what is really there.
Keep up the good writing :)

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
To listen to another, deeply, is good advice. You are correct, it is difficult to free ourselves from our own assumptions and a tricky think when we move quickly without adequate time in their shoes. Thanks for the poem.

Not all heroes are recognized
The ones who have been a hero the whole time
We don't know their story
Or the face behind the mask. this is the stanza which made me wonder why a person has to have endless masks to pretend or to protect oneself but there is also the thinking that we are heroes in our own ways

but sometimes it gets tiring to be wearing different masks and confusing too because there will come.. read more
This poem right here is why I have such a hard time giving critiques or questioning people. THERE IS SO MUCH TO THAT PERSON! The things that look like mistakes or downfalls could have soooo much meaning that would give a person soooo much perspective on what goes on in that other persons head, and there is always sooooo much to learn from what goes on in other peoples heads!

Sorry for the rambaling, but as you can see I like the sentiment in this poem! I also enjoy the way it reads, and am so glad I got to read a poem about this that is written beautifully!

“You find out that they don’t fit” is my favorite line.
I enjoyed reading!

Of course!
This is awesome, Allaura! To be honest, I'm not entirely for Free Verse, because there are many out there who don't know what they're doing when they write it. So I'm often worried that whatever Free Verse I read is just going to be the common rubbish. This is not! This has great flow, its message is expressed beautifully, and it's all spot on magnificence! There are a couple of aspects that need to be looked at though:

- "help but wonder" is a phrase that really only works in the negative (I CANNOT help but wonder), because the "help" is playing off the "cannot" and not the "wonder". This is just an FYI for what you have is fine, so long as you know you're being witty in playing with the phrase.

- "Yet the only one really know is yourself" ..... what the heck does this mean?

Anyway, this is fantastic, and you've earned yourself a spot on my good Free Verse list. Well done!

Thank you so much for your feedback! I will look into those verses!
You do some profound pondering! It’s one of those “start with the person in the mirror” poems.

Like this stanza:

“We take people for granted
Or lash out when we are mad
We make assumptions about their story
Who knows, they could have been hurt in the past?”

How are we not all guilty of that?

I love the way you think and express yourself.

Good write. ❤️
