Unaware

Unaware

A Poem by N. N. Grainger

Love, ‘til now I’ve lived life a child.

You are a woman though you sleep like a bairn.

I will house you in lofty arms,

Defeat the world for your protection,

Cradle you heart-face to my shoulder

And sigh as you snuffle to my breast.

Nightly, I bow down to take your mouth

So tenderly not to cause a stir.

Even in day you fit my arms, little one.

I’ll be for you, eaves during rain.

When you wake, you wake me a woman.

And I will return for you, your babe.
