Operation: Monte Carlo Ep. 3 Soul of a Man

Ishikawa Kazuo has a chance to get back at his nemesis, but what will he find out in the course of the mission?

          INT. DEFENSE INTELLIGENCE HEADQUARTERS. MORNING.

          Kenta is standing in front of the screen in his office.

          Daisuke and the other men are all sitting in chairs facing

          him.

                              KENTA

                    Good work on finding this

                    information. We will now begin

                    breaking this group down. This

                    yakuza group is organized into five

                    sectors. We will be handling the

                    sectors in a specific order. Each

                    sector is headed by a leader who

                    relays their finances and

                    information to the mother sector

                    which is where the family leader

                    is.

                              DAISUKE

                    Was Hideaki the head of one of the

                    sectors?

                              KENTA

                    No. He was actually a hitman for

                    the Ka Sector.

                              DAISUKE

                    Will each of us be in charge of

                    finding a specific sector?

                              KENTA

                    No, everyone will be needed to find

                    these sectors. I will leave you in

                    charge of giving your team further

                    orders.

                              DAISUKE

                    Yes sir.

          Kenta turns on the screen to show a file on the Sakamoto

          clan.

                              KENTA

                    The Sakamoto clan is a highly

                    esteemed group, dating back to

                    pre-World War II. The main leader,

                    Sakamoto Akihiro, is the second

                    generation. His son, Sakamoto

                    Seiichi, is third. This group made

                    their place as illegal weapon

                    dealers, selling weapons to people

                    who did not own a license but had

                    the money.

                              KAZUO

                    That explains their wealth.

                              KENTA

                    Correct and having been around for

                    as long as they have helps their

                    cause. Other yakuza groups look up

                    to this clan and would not dare try

                    to fight them. Instead the ally

                    themselves with them, so there is a

                    chance you will have to fight

                    members from other yakuza groups.

                    Many of the other groups get their

                    weapons from Sakamoto.

          He switches the screen to a file showing a picture of a man

          with his information beside it. Kazuo's eyes widen.

                              KENTA

                    This is Furusawa Tetsuo. He is a

                    special agent for the Sakamoto

                    clan. He worked for our government

                    as an undercover spy. However,

                    because of an incident ten years

                    ago, he was convicted with treason

                    and was sentence to death. He was

                    somehow able to escape and made his

                    way to America where he worked for

                    the CIA. A few years ago, he

                    returned to Japan and joined the

                    Sakamoto clan as the head of the

                    Chi sector.

          Kazuo rises and quickly leaves the room.

                              DAISUKE

                    What was that all about?

                              KENTA

                    This might be a personal case for

                    Ishikawa.

                              YUUTO

                    Why?

                              KENTA

                    The incident that happened ten

                    years ago. Furusawa killed his

                    partner. His partner was Yano Ren,

                    or as she was known after her

                    marriage, Ishikawa Ren, Kazuo's

                    mother.

          Outside of the office, Kazuo is seen looking at a picture of

          his mother in his wallet. His expression speaks revenge.

          INT. ITO HOUSE. MORNING.

          The kitchen of this house is very small. The only doorway in

          the kitchen leads to a traditional dining room.

          ITO YOSHIE, Natsumi's mother, is finishing preparing

          breakfast. Natsumi enters wearing her pajamas and a robe.

          She seems tired still.

                              NATSUMI

                    Good morning mother.

                              YOSHIE

                    Good morning Natsu. Did you sleep

                    well?

                              NATSUMI

                    I did.

                              YOSHIE

                    Will you wake up all your siblings

                    for me? Breakfast is almost done.

                              NATSUMI

                    Okay.

          A little later, Natsumi is helping her mother setting up

          breakfast in the dining room. ITO ASAKA, Natsumi's older

          sister, enters. Her eyes are slightly swollen.

                              YOSHIE

                    Asaka, you need to stop crying

                    yourself to sleep.

          ITO AOI, Natsumi's older brother, is heard.

                              AOI

                    Yeah. Your whining is starting to

                    get on my nerves.

          Aoi enters in just pajama pants.

                              ASAKA

                    Well, you would whine too if you

                    found out your girlfriend was

                    cheating on you.

                              AOI

                         (Laughs)

                    Let her. I need an excuse to break

                    up with her.

                              YOSHIE

                    Aoi, if it's that bad, why don't

                    you end it?

                              AOI

                    Because I don't like seeing girls

                    cry, mama.

                              YOSHIE

                    Oh please, you made Natsu and

                    Megumi cry all the time when you

                    were younger.

                              AOI

                    They're my sisters, not potential

                    wives. There's a difference.

                              ASAKA

                    You might get a wife if you weren't

                    such an a*s.

                              AOI

                    Mom, she's using bad language at

                    the table.

                              YOSHIE

                    Aoi, stop being an a*s.

          Natsumi and Asaka start laughing. Aoi sits and pouts. Yoshie

          hugs him.

                              YOSHIE

                    You're all grown up, act that way.

                    And Asaka, I am glad you're smiling

                    again.

                              ASAKA

                    It's just good be around family.

                              YOSHIE

                    We're always here for you.

          Megumi enters dressed in another colorful, yet revealing,

          outfit. She poses.

                              MEGUMI

                    How about this?

          Everyone looks at her.

                              AOI

                    Who are you trying to impress?

                              YOSHIE

                    You are not walking outside of the

                    house with that on.

                              MEGUMI

                    Mom!

                              YOSHIE

                    Go cover yourself up. You're going

                    to university, not a nightclub.

                              MEGUMI

                    So I can wear this to a club

                    outside of the house but not to

                    school?

                              YOSHIE

                    I don't want you showing that much

                    skin with all those perverts

                    around.

                              AOI

                    Gotta watch out for those perverts.

                    I don't know if you've noticed but

                    you're a pervert magnet.

                              MEGUMI

                    What do you mean by that?

                              AOI

                    I know because I'm a pervert and I

                    know my fellow perverts.

                              MEGUMI

                    You're gross.

                              AOI

                    Stop wearing s****y clothes.

                              MEGUMI

                    Put on a shirt!

          Megumi stomps off back upstairs.

                              YOSHIE

                    Asaka, go help her dress for

                    school.

                              ASAKA

                    Mom, she's nineteen. She can dress

                    herself.

                              YOSHIE

                    Obviously not. No go help her pic

                    out some decent clothes.

          Asaka rolls her eyes and walks up the stairs.

                              NATSUMI

                    Has it been this interesting since

                    I've been gone?

                              AOI

                    No, just the opposite.

          Natsumi sits down next to him.

                              YOSHIE

                    If only it could be quieter. It's

                    like living with teenagers again.

                              AOI

                    Hey, I'm living life. I don't want

                    to settle down just yet.

                              YOSHIE

                    You are thirty years old. Natsumi

                    has settled down and she's only

                    twenty-eight.

                              AOI

                    She's only had the same boyfriend

                    for thirteen years.

                              NATSUMI

                    If you had treated Ai right in high

                    school, you might have ended up

                    like me.

                              AOI

                    Yes, I want to end up like my

                    younger sister whose married. No

                    thank you. If I did marry her, I

                    would have ended up like Asaka.

                              NATSUMI

                    You mean?

          Aoi nods. Natsumi's eyes widen.

                              AOI

                    I heard her girlfriend is European.

                    So it's only a matter of time

                    before Shinobu comes out.

          Natsumi hits Aoi in the arm as he laughs.

                              YOSHIE

                    You two go ahead and eat before

                    your food gets cold.

          Aoi and Natsumi start to serve themselves. Yoshie walks back

          into the kitchen.

                              NATSUMI

                    Mom?

                              YOSHIE

                    Yes, sweety.

          Natsumi walks into the kitchen and whispers something in her

          mother's ear. Aoi starts to eat when Asaka walks back down

          the stairs.

                              ASAKA

                    Where's Natsu?

          Aoi points to the kitchen.

                              ASAKA

                    She talking to mom about getting a

                    check up?

                              AOI

                    How should I know?

                              ASAKA

                    She's married. What else would she

                    need a check up for?

          Aoi almost chokes on his food.

                              AOI

                    You mean she's?

                              ASAKA

                    Might be.

                              AOI

                    I just never imagined my sister and

                    Shinobu...

                              ASAKA

                    Don't even go there.

          ITO TOSHII, Natsumi's father, walks in from another room

          from the house. He is filthy from working on cars and he's

          wiping his hands on a washcloth.

                              TOSHII

                    Good morning. Where is everyone?

                              ASAKA

                    Natsu and mom are in the kitchen

                    and Megumi is getting dressed.

                              TOSHII

                    Natsu asking about the check up.

                              AOI

                    Why am I the only one who hasn't

                    heard about this?

                              ASAKA

                    Because you don't listen.

                              AOI

                    With your whining, I'm not

                    surprised.l

          Asaka hits him on the shoulder.

                              AOI

                    Ouch! No wonder your husband left

                    you. You're abusive.

                              ASAKA

                    Ex-husband.

                              AOI

                    You're not divorced yet so it's

                    still husband.

                              ASAKA

                    Why don't you do us all a favor and

                    slip into something more

                    comfortable, like a coma.

                              TOSHII

                    Behave you two, it's too early for

                    arguments.

                              ASAKA

                    You already missed one.

          Megumi walks down the stairs in a knee length skirt and a

          turtleneck sweater. She has a frown on her face.

                              MEGUMI

                    I feel like an old lady.

                              ASAKA

                    You live in Sapporo, not Tokyo. You

                    need warmer clothes.

                              MEGUMI

                    Really? A sweater and a long skirt?

                    Can I at least look cute?

          Asaka looks at her.

                              ASAKA

                    Keep the sweater. Go into my room

                    and grab my black tights and put on

                    a short skirt. Wear knee high boots

                    and you'll be fine.

                              MEGUMI

                    I hate my life.

          Megumi stomps back upstairs. Yoshie and Natsumi enter from

          the kitchen.

                              YOSHIE

                    I will call the doctor and schedule

                    your check up for tomorrow morning.

                    Alright?

                              NATSUMI

                    Alright. Thank you mother.

                              YOSHIE

                    Of course.

          INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. MORNING.

          All of the men except for Kazuo are in the study. Shinobu is

          working on his computer. Daisuke is standing facing Yuuto

          and Ryoichi who are sitting across from him.

                              DAISUKE

                    I think Ishikawa plans to do this

                    mission on his own but we are not

                    going to let him do that.

                              RYOICHI

                    If we try to help him, he will

                    probably push us away. This is his

                    time for revenge.

                              YUUTO

                    I agree with Daisuke. I don't know

                    how experienced this guy is but

                    Kazuo cannot fight him alone. He'll

                    need our help.

          Shinobu turns in his chair.

                              SHINOBU

                    We need to find Kazuo first. During

                    the meeting, he just left without a

                    word.

                              YUUTO

                    I saw that coming.

                              DAISUKE

                    Really? How?

                              YUUTO

                    I could tell because he tensed up.

                    His pupils also dilated showing

                    that there was some intensity,

                    either it being sadness or anger.

                    He is not really good at hiding his

                    emotions. Anger was written all

                    over him.

                              DAISUKE

                    Why didn't you stop him from

                    leaving?

                              YUUTO

                    Because I don't want to get punched

                    in the face by that much anger. He

                    was ready to kill someone.

                              SHINOBU

                    Didn't Watanabe-san say that

                    Furusawa was in the CIA in America?

                              DAISUKE

                    Yes.

                              SHINOBU

                    That was ten years ago. That's

                    around the same time Ishikawa moved

                    to America.

                              RYOICHI

                    Do you think he was following

                    Furusawa?

                              SHINOBU

                    I can't say for sure, but both were

                    involved in the CIA at the same

                    time.

                              RYOICHI

                    That explains it. He's been chasing

                    this guy for ten years.

                              YUUTO

                    Revenge is on the menu.

                              DAISUKE

                    That still does not change the fact

                    that he needs our help.

                              KAZUO

                    I don't need your help.

          They all look back to see Kazuo at the door to the hallway.

          He is holding a briefcase. He walks over to the bookshelf

          that opens up the weapons cabinet. He grabs a few guns and

          places them in the briefcase.

                              KAZUO

                    I don't want your help. If you

                    insist on helping, kill the rest of

                    the Chi sector, but leave Furusawa

                    to me. If you don't, I will kill

                    you and they won't find you.

          He exits through the hallway.

                              RYOICHI

                    Well, I'm not getting in his way.

                              DAISUKE

                    Fine. Shinobu and I will start

                    looking for any information that

                    might help lead us to Furusawa.

                    Kawano and Yuuto, you will be in

                    charge of taking out anyone in the

                    sector that might get in Ishikawa's

                    way. Even though he doesn't want

                    it, we'll give him all the help we

                    can give. Are we clear?

                              RYOICHI

                    Yes, sir.

                              SHINOBU

                    We're clear.

          Yuuto nods.

          A little later, in Yuuto's room, he stands at the vanity

          taking his medication. He hears a knock on the door frame.

          He looks over to see Ninette with a black pixie cut, instead

          of her normal shoulder length strawberry blond.

                              NINETTE

                    Good morning.

                              YUUTO

                    Good morning. You look different.

                              NINETTE

                    I want to help you guys.

          Yuuto faces her.

                              NINETTE

                    I can take care of myself and I'm

                    willing to do anything to help.

                              YUUTO

                    You'll have to ask Daisuke and

                    he'll probably say no.

                              NINETTE

                    I'm asking you. I want to help you

                    and Ryoichi. I'm tired of being

                    locked up in this house not being

                    able to do anything.

          Yuuto walks towards her.

                              YUUTO

                    If anything happens to you, it will

                    be on my conscious. You saw how I

                    reacted when I thought you were

                    dead. You have already been hurt

                    once.

                              NINETTE

                    I am aware of that but I'm not

                    going sit back and watch you fight

                    something that my father started.

                    It was his mistake and if anyone is

                    going to fix it, its me. I won't

                    let any of you die because of his

                    mistake.

          Yuuto walks away from her towards his bed. She quickly walks

          over to him and hugs him. He becomes tense.

                              NINETTE

                    Please, let me do this. I don't

                    want to regret this if anything bad

                    happens to you. If this is the only

                    way I can help you, let this be it.

          Yuuto pushes her hands away. He turns to her.

                              YUUTO

                    Alright. Fine, but if things get

                    too hectic, I don't want you to

                    fuss. You will come back here and

                    stay here until it is safe for you.

                    Agreed?

                              NINETTE

                    Agreed.

                              YUUTO

                    Daisuke is going to kill me for

                    this.

                              NINETTE

                    Tell him it was my idea.

                              YUUTO

                    Yes, he'll buy that.

          In the study, Shinobu, Daisuke and Ryoichi are all at the

          computer.

                              SHINOBU

                    According to the information we

                    found, the Chi sector mainly

                    functions in Kita. It seems that

                    this group has combined Japanese

                    philosophy with modern witchcraft.

                              DAISUKE

                    Witchcraft?

                              SHINOBU

                    Each sector is named after an

                    element. Chi, earth; Fu, wind; Sui,

                    water; Ka, fire; and Ku, void.

                    That's our philosophy, however they

                    are using Wicca concepts in

                    accordance to where each of them

                    are located. Earth is north, their

                    base is in Kita which means north.

                              DAISUKE

                    What did they teach you in those

                    forensic classes?

                              SHINOBU

                    Natsumi was Wiccan back in college.

                              DAISUKE

                    I don't remember that.

                              SHINOBU

                    She doesn't want to either. I

                    remember going to her apartment and

                    she had candles everywhere.

          Yuuto and Ninette walks in from the hallway.

                              YUUTO

                    Have we found them yet?

          They all look back and are puzzled by Ninette's new look.

                              RYOICHI

                    You dyed your hair.

                              DAISUKE

                    Why did you change your look?

                              NINETTE

                    I have decided that in order to

                    help you guys outside of this

                    house, I needed to change my

                    appearance so I don't stand out as

                    much.

                              RYOICHI

                    Outside of the house? You're not

                    leaving, there's a good chance you

                    will get killed.

                              NINETTE

                    Obviously, they want me alive, so

                    we don't have to worry about that.

                              DAISUKE

                    This is not a game, princess. Its

                    not like we are going to jump

                    around looking for you in different

                    castles.

                              NINETTE

                    I'm not some damsel in distress. I

                    can take care of myself. I think I

                    have proved that before.

                              DAISUKE

                    It's not that you can or can't take

                    care of yourself. It's the fact

                    that if you die, it's on all of our

                    heads. After you're dead or

                    kidnapped, you can't come back and

                    tell them to not throw us in jail.

                    Shinobu has a wife, Kawano has a

                    son, I have a girlfriend whose

                    brother hates me, and Yuuto doesn't

                    need to have anymore personalities

                    than he already has.

                              NINETTE

                         (yelling)

                    Do you think I don't know that? I

                    don't want you fighting for me! I

                    want to fight for myself! (calming

                    down) I have already written my

                    will that states you all will not

                    be held accounted for my death.

          They all look at her surprised.

                              SHINOBU

                    You did what?

                              NINETTE

                    I didn't find it fair that you all

                    should be tried for my death. So,

                    if I die, the government of Japan

                    is not allowed to charge you for my

                    death. I have made an agreement

                    with my father that if the worst

                    case scenario happens, all of you

                    will go free.

                              SHINOBU

                    So now you want to help us protect

                    you?

                              NINETTE

                    Yes. I can protect myself.

          Daisuke walks away from all of them, thinking. There is a

          moment of silence.

                              DAISUKE

                    Alright, you will go with Kawano

                    and Yuuto.

                              YUUTO

                    I have already told her that if

                    things get too hectic she has to

                    step down and come back here.

                              DAISUKE

                    Thank you for handling that. Kawano

                    and Yuuto...

                              NINETTE

                    And...

                              DAISUKE

                    And Ninette. You all will be

                    heading up to Kita.

                              SHINOBU

                    They operate close to the border

                    between Kita and Adachi. I would

                    start there. Focus on business

                    buildings because they will look

                    less suspicious. This is the group

                    that focuses on selling the

                    weapons.

                              RYOICHI

                    Are there certain buildings on the

                    list?

                              SHINOBU

                    There have been five that had been

                    listed as suspicious. I'll get

                    Watanabe to send them to me so I

                    can print them out for you before

                    you head out.

                              DAISUKE

                    We'll start looking through those

                    five businesses to see if there is

                    anything in their records that

                    might help.

          INT. SAITA CORP. NOON.

          Kazuo enters into Saita Corporations in Kita. He is in a

          business suit and a fake name tag. The name tag has 'Higa

          Ryo' on it. He is also carrying a briefcase. The

          receptionist notices him.

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    Welcome to Saita Corporations, how

                    may I help you?

                              KAZUO

                    Hello, my name is Higa Ryo from the

                    Saita Corporations in Shinagawa. I

                    have come to see Furusawa Tetsuo.

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    Do you have an appointment?

                              KAZUO

                    He knows I am coming.

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    Shall I call him to meet you down

                    here?

                              KAZUO

                    No, I know where his office is.

                    Thank you.

          He walks over to the elevator where he scans his name tag.

          When the elevator opens, he steps in and presses the button

          for the top floor. The elevator closes and starts its

          accent. He opens his briefcase and pulls out the guns from

          earlier that he shoves in his pockets and pulls out a knife

          that he puts in a holster strapped to his leg.

          A few moments later, the elevator opens. Kazuo steps out and

          notices FURUSAWA TETSUO at the opposite side of the room.

                              TETSUO

                    You must be Higa Ryo, or as I know

                    you, Ishikawa Kazuo. You've grown

                    since I last saw you. Ten years

                    ago, was it?

          Kazuo smirks.

                              KAZUO

                    Yeah, ten years.

          Tetsuo walks over into another room. Kazuo pulls out the gun

          from his pocket and follows him. When he enters, Tetsuo is

          behind his desk, pouring whiskey into two glasses. Kazuo

          notices that the desk is on wheels. He keeps his gun aimed

          at Tetsuo. Tetsuo carries both of the glasses to his desk

          and sits. He places one glass on Kazuo's side of the desk

          and starts to drink from his.

                              TETSUO

                    Sit, please. Let's not fight here.

          Kazuo slowly walks to the chair in front of the desk and

          sits. He keeps his gun aimed.

                              TETSUO

                    Now, why are you here?

                              KAZUO

                    You know very well why I'm here.

                    You murdered my mother.

                              TETSUO

                    Ah, yes that's right. Ren,

                    beautiful woman. She knew how to

                    kill a man in worse ways than I. I

                    admired her spirit.

                              KAZUO

                    Then why did you kill her?

                              TETSUO

                    You want answers. Well, I met your

                    mother about thirty-four years ago

                    when we started working together.

                    We were partners and sort of an

                    item back then. Then she met your

                    father and the relationship was

                    over and she stopped working to

                    stay away from me. She went under

                    witness protection to keep me from

                    finding her but I kept my eye on

                    her nonetheless.

                              KAZUO

                    You stalked her.

                              TETSUO

                    I guess you could say that. My

                    heart was broken and I wanted to

                    kill her but I'm not a cold hearted

                    b*****d. I waited until she didn't

                    have to help raise you anymore.

                              KAZUO

                    That's why you waited until I was

                    twenty.

                              TETSUO

                    You're catching on. When she was

                    the only one at the house, I killed

                    her. I explained my motives before

                    I slowly killed her. I wanted to

                    repay her for all of the painful

                    years I had to watch her with your

                    father.

                              KAZUO

                    You are a sick cold hearted

                    b*****d.

                              TETSUO

                    When you are in the business we are

                    in, there is no room to be kind.

          He finishes his drink and grabs the glass set out for Kazuo

          and finishes it.

                              TETSUO

                    Guess you thought it was poisoned.

                    I wouldn't do that to good whiskey.

                              KAZUO

                    Alcohol clouds my vision. I would

                    like to be able to see your blood

                    clearly.

                              TETSUO

                    It's quite the opposite for me.

          Tetsuo pulls out a gun from his pocket and shoots. Kazuo

          moves quickly. Kazuo throws his briefcase but Tetsuo who

          ducks to avoid it and he kicks the desk at Kazuo. Kazuo

          front rolls over the desk, pulls out his knife and throws it

          at Tetsuo. The knife knocks the gun out of Tetsuo's hand and

          before he can reach for it, Kazuo jumps on his back and

          starts to choke him. To get him off, Tetsuo slams Kazuo into

          the wall behind him. Kazuo kicks Tetsuo away from him and

          when he turns around, Kazuo drop kicks him into the floor.

          When Tetsuo doesn't get up, Kazuo picks up his gun and aims

          at his head. Tetsuo's eyes open and he pulls Kazuo's legs

          out from under him, slamming his head into the wall,

          knocking him out. Tetsuo stands wiping the blood off of his

          face. He goes over to his desk and pulls his cell phone out

          of the drawer. He dials a number and waits.

                              TETSUO

                    Hey, I need someone taken to my

                    place and locked up. (pause) Yeah,

                    I'll take care of him later.

          He closes the phone.

          EXT. KITA WARD. NOON.

          In the crowded streets, Yuuto, Ryoichi and Ninette are

          outside of a office building. Ryoichi is holding a piece of

          paper.

                              RYOICHI

                    This is the first one on the list.

                    It doesn't look suspicious.

                              YUUTO

                    It's not the building, its the

                    workers. This is where I come in.

          Yuuto goes to enter and notices Ninette following him.

                              YUUTO

                    What are you doing?

                              NINETTE

                    I want to see what you do.

                              YUUTO

                    I think it would be better if you

                    stayed out here. Even better, why

                    don't you and Ryoichi go to the

                    next building on the list?

                              NINETTE

                    But...

                              YUUTO

                    But nothing, go with Ryoichi. He

                    can protect you better than I can.

                    I'll call when I'm finished.

          Ninette walks back to Ryoichi and they start off in another

          direction. Yuuto walks into the building and locates a woman

          at the front desk who is looking down at something.

                              YUUTO

                    Hello?

                              SECRETARY

                    Oh, hello. How may I help you?

                              YUUTO

                    I was wondering if there was a man

                    that worked here by the name of

                    Furusawa Tetsuo. You see, I'm a

                    business partner of his and I need

                    to speak to him.

                              SECRETARY

                    Oh, there is no one in this

                    building with that name.

                              YUUTO

                    Really?

                              SECRETARY

                    Yes.

                              YUUTO

                    I see. I must have read the

                    directions wrong.

                              SECRETARY

                    Well, there is a Furusawa in the

                    area. I don't know what building he

                    works at.

                              YUUTO

                    Alright, thank you.

          He exits the building. He pulls out his phone and notices

          his mother has called. He dials a number and waits.

                              YUUTO

                    Ryoichi, where's the next building

                    located. (pause) Yeah, there was no

                    sign that she was lying. (pause)

                    Alright, I will head there now.

          INT. SAITA CORP. NOON.

          Ryoichi hangs up the phone. Ninette is off looking around.

          Ryoichi walks over to the receptionist.

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    Hello, welcome to Saita

                    Corporations. How may I help you?

          Ryoichi pulls out a realistic badge from the inside of his

          jacket.

                              RYOICHI

                    Hello, I am the new fire marshal

                    who will be looking over this

                    building today. The lady over there

                    is my assistant. We were assigned

                    to do a spontaneous assessment

                    today.

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    Oh, well I will call someone to

                    show you around. Please wait with

                    your assistant.

                              RYOICHI

                    Thank you.

          He walks over to Ninette.

                              RYOICHI

                    Alright, we are fire marshals. Look

                    over every inch of every room for

                    any suspicion. Do you have your

                    items.

                              NINETTE

                    I have everything I need.

                              RYOICHI

                    I'm going to go out to the van and

                    get a few things we'll need. Don't

                    go anywhere.

                              NINETTE

                    Alright.

          Ryoichi leaves the building. Ninette notices the elevator

          door open. She sees two men coming out with a stretcher.

          There is a full body bag on top. Ninette watches them leave.

          She goes over to the receptionist's desk.

                              NINETTE

                    Excuse me, why did those men just

                    take a body bag out?

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    Oh, we had to call an ambulance for

                    someone. I couldn't leave my desk

                    or else I would have gone up there.

                              NINETTE

                    Oh, alright.

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    My boss is heading down now to show

                    you and your partner around.

                              NINETTE

                    Thank you.

          Ninette walks away and see Ryoichi entering with a large

          bag.

                              RYOICHI

                    Hey, did you see the body bag?

                              NINETTE

                    Yeah, apparently they had to call

                    an ambulance.

                              RYOICHI

                    There was no ambulance and the bag

                    moved.

                              NINETTE

                    What do you mean it moved?

                              RYOICHI

                    They put the body bag in the back

                    of a van and it moved when they

                    threw it in there. Whoever is in

                    there is not dead.

                              NINETTE

                    Do you think they took someone as

                    prisoner?

                              TETSUO

                    Are you two the fire marshals?

          Ninette turns around. Tetsuo has a few bruises from the

          brawl with Kazuo, but he has cleaned up.

                              RYOICHI

                    Yes, we have come to do a

                    spontaneous assessment.

                              TETSUO

                    I didn't know they did those.

                              RYOICHI

                    Well, if we come spontaneously, you

                    have no time to prepare so we catch

                    you at the best time.

                              TETSUO

                    I see. Please introduce yourselves.

                              RYOICHI

                    I'm Sanada Giichi and this is my

                    partner, Yamaguchi Gracia.

                              TETSUO

                    Gracia?

                              NINETTE

                    My mother is English.

                              TETSUO

                    I see. I am Furusawa Tetsuo.

                    Welcome to Saita Corporations.

          Tetsuo turns back to the elevator. Ninette looks back at

          Ryoichi. Both are stunned.

          INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. NOON.

          Shinobu and Daisuke are both at computers looking through

          documents. Shinobu finds one and jumps up.

                              SHINOBU

                    I found something.

                              DAISUKE

                    What?

                              SHINOBU

                    Of those five businesses that we

                    sent Ryoichi and Yuuto to, only two

                    of them have outlandish profit

                    margins. Saita Corporations has a

                    margin of over two hundred percent.

                    The other has almost the same

                    amount but a little lower.

                              DAISUKE

                    What if they just have high sales?

                              SHINOBU

                    With a margin that high, there is

                    no way. They have to be selling

                    something under the table to get

                    sales that high.

                              DAISUKE

                    But why would they add the illegal

                    margin to the actual sales margin?

                              SHINOBU

                    More profitability. The higher

                    their profit margin, the cheaper

                    they can sell their products to

                    wipe out competitors. Having profit

                    margins that high, they can easily

                    hide the fact that they are selling

                    illegal items so they don't get

                    caught.

                              DAISUKE

                    Did they teach you marketing too?

                              SHINOBU

                    Separate course. Anyway, Saita

                    Corporations and EW Industries have

                    higher margins than the other two

                    and are worth investigating.

                              DAISUKE

                    You're a genius, Shinobu. You

                    really are.

                              SHINOBU

                    They don't call me the human

                    calculator for nothing.

          Daisuke pulls out his phone and dials.

          EXT. KITA WARD. NOON.

          Yuuto is out on the streets. His phone starts to ring and he

          answers it.

                              YUUTO

                    Yeah?

                              DAISUKE

                         (over phone)

                    Hey, it's Daisuke. Where are you

                    guys at?

                              YUUTO

                    I'm right out in front of EW

                    Industries. I just left there

                    looking for clues but no luck.

                              DAISUKE

                         (over phone)

                    Great!

                              YUUTO

                    How is that great?

                              DAISUKE

                         (over phone)

                    Shinobu just found out information

                    that narrowed down your search but

                    you just narrowed it down to just

                    one.

                              YUUTO

                    Really? Which one?

                              DAISUKE

                         (over phone)

                    Saita Corporations. Head over there

                    now to look up some things.

                              YUUTO

                    Ryoichi and Ninette are already

                    there looking.

                              DAISUKE

                         (over phone)

                    Then get over there now just in

                    case this is the one.

                              YUUTO

                    I'm on it.

          Yuuto hangs up and starts to run down the street.

          INT. SAITA CORP. NOON.

          Tetsuo leads Ninette and Ryoichi into a room with several

          racks supplies.

                              TETSUO

                    This is the supply closet for our

                    office workers.

                              RYOICHI

                    Is there any other exit from this

                    room?

                              TETSUO

                    No.

                              RYOICHI

                    And it's lockable from the outside.

                              TETSUO

                    Correct, only our staff has keys to

                    get in. Which means you two aren't

                    getting out.

                              NINETTE

                    What?

          Tetsuo pulls Ninette close to him, pulling her arm behind

          her. He points the gun he pulled from his pocket at Ryoichi.

                              TETSUO

                    You two can't keep face, can you? I

                    really had hoped you were better

                    than that. Especially you,

                    princess. You should work on that

                    accent of yours.

          Ninette tries to break free but Tetsuo twists her arm. She

          screams in pain.

                              RYOICHI

                    Let her go.

                              TETSUO

                    Don't think so.

          He steps out closing the door behind him. Ryoichi goes to

          open the door but it is locked.

                              RYOICHI

                    D****t!

          He pulls out his phone and dials.

                              RYOICHI

                    Come on, pick up! (pause) Yuuto!

          In the main lobby, Yuuto is on his phone in front of the

          receptionist.

                              YUUTO

                    Yeah?

                              RYOICHI

                         (over phone)

                    Tetsuo took Ninette and has locked

                    me up in the supply closet of the

                    fifth floor. I need you to find a

                    key and let me out. He said all the

                    employees have one.

          Yuuto looks at the receptionist. He pulls out his government

          badge and shows it to her.

                              YUUTO

                    I'm with Defense Intelligence. I

                    need your key to the supply room on

                    the fifth floor now.

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    I don't know what you are talking

                    about.

          Yuuto pulls out his gun and points at her.

                              YUUTO

                    Give me your key!

          She scrambles through the items on the desk until she finds

          a keyring with two keys on it.

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    It's one of those, I swear.

          Yuuto takes the keys and runs to the elevator.

          INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. NOON.

          Daisuke and Shinobu are looking through some of Saita Corps'

          files when Daisuke's phone goes off. He answers.

                              DAISUKE

                    Uchida Daisuke.

                              YUUTO

                         (over phone)

                    It is Saita Corps but we have a

                    problem.

                              DAISUKE

                    What's the problem?

                              YUUTO

                         (over phone)

                    Ryoichi and Ninette ran into Tetsuo

                    and now he has Ninette and I'm off

                    to save Ryoichi. I have no idea

                    where he is off to.

                              DAISUKE

                    Alright, we'll figure something out

                    here. If you can try to find out

                    where he lives from one of the

                    workers there.

          INT. SAITA CORP. NOON.

          On the fifth floor, Yuuto finds the supply closet and

          unlocks it. He looks in but doesn't see Ryoichi.

                              YUUTO

                    Kawano!?

                              RYOICHI

                    I'm here, I found where they kept

                    the weapon supply.

                              YUUTO

                    We need to go!

          Ryoichi comes out from around the corner.

                              RYOICHI

                    We need to call Watanabe. Those are

                    all military weapons.

                              YUUTO

                    Okay, we can later. Let's go.

          Ryoichi and Yuuto run out of the room and back to the

          elevator.

          They exit to the third floor where there are several workers

          in cubicals. Ryoichi pulls out his gun and his government

          badge.

                              RYOICHI

                    We're government agents! Please

                    line against the far wall!

          They all do as he says and Yuuto runs over to one of the

          computers. He starts typing. Ryoichi watches him and the

          workers.

                              RYOICHI

                    Does anyone know where Furusawa

                    Tetsuo lives or where he frequently

                    visits?

          Everyone stays silent.

                              YUUTO

                    His information is not in the

                    system.

          Ryoichi points to one of the workers.

                              RYOICHI

                    You, what is the name of your boss?

                              WORKER

                    Furusawa Kenshin.

                              RYOICHI

                    Yuuto, look that up.

          Yuuto starts to type again.

                              YUUTO

                    Yeah, that's him, but it doesn't

                    list a home address.

                              RYOICHI

                    Great. Everyone, do not continue

                    your work. You will be investigated

                    by our department.

          Ryoichi and Yuuto walks out.

          They reach the lobby and the receptionist jumps out from the

          desk and starts to shoot at them. Yuuto collapses and

          changes. Ryoichi runs off to cover behind something. Yuuto

          rises and takes out his gun.

                              YUUTO (KATASHI)

                    Little girls shouldn't play with

                    guns.

          He starts to walk forward and shoot. She jumps back over the

          desk. Ryoichi runs out but three other men from around the

          corner start to shoot.

                              RYOICHI

                    You have got to be kidding me.

          He runs back to where he was, Yuuto shoots at the men and

          kills two of them. He charges after the last man and tackles

          him to the ground. He picks up his head and breaks his neck.

          The receptionist stands up and aims at Yuuto. Ryoichi

          notices her and shoots her in the head. Yuuto turns around

          and collapses. Ryoichi walks towards him.

                              RYOICHI

                    Are you back to Yuuto?

                              YUUTO

                    Yeah. It's me.

          Yuuto looks around to see the three dead men.

                              YUUTO

                    I don't like remembering things

                    like this.

                              RYOICHI

                    Maybe we can fix that later. We

                    might want to get out of here

                    before more come to kill us.

          EXT. AKABANA STATION. MID-AFTERNOON.

          Yuuto and Ryoichi are standing at the exit to the station.

          Ryoichi is on the phone.

                              RYOICHI

                    Yeah, Saita Corps is the center for

                    the Chi Sector. They have a supply

                    closet on the fifth floor that is

                    loaded with military weapons and

                    there are probably others secret

                    rooms in the building. (pause) Yes,

                    we need the police at the building

                    at soon as possible. (pause) Oh,

                    and tell them to ignore the dead

                    bodies in the lobby.

                              YUUTO

                    Did you really have to mention the

                    bodies?

                              RYOICHI

                    If they don't run into surprises,

                    they can investigate faster.

          Yuuto spots Shinobu and Daisuke coming up the stairs.

                              YUUTO

                    About time you two showed up.

                              SHINOBU

                    We found his location.

                              YUUTO

                    Great. How?

                              SHINOBU

                    Never let a princess out of your

                    care without a tracker.

                              YUUTO

                    You love those, don't you.

                              SHINOBU

                    Best piece of machinery you can

                    own. I slipped one in each of your

                    cell phones. So the best news I

                    have is that Tetsuo and Ninette are

                    in Adachi Ward. It's a house

                    similar to Ishikawa's.

                              RYOICHI

                    Speaking of Ishikawa, has anyone

                    heard from him?

                              SHINOBU

                    Second best part. I received a

                    signal from Ishikawa's cell phone

                    from that exact location.

                              RYOICHI

                    So he's already there?

                              SHINOBU

                    Exactly. We need to hurry.

          INT/EXT. TETSUO'S HOUSE. DUSK.

          The basement is bare. There are a few steel beams, Kazuo has

          his hands handcuffed around one.

          Kazuo hears voices and footsteps from above him. The door

          opens and Tetsuo pushes Ninette down the stairs. She lands

          on her right side and screams in pain. Her hands are also

          handcuffed.

                              TETSUO

                    Now, now, princess. If you didn't

                    refuse to go down there you

                    wouldn't have gotten pushed.

                              KAZUO

                    Princess Ninette.

          Ninette rolls on her back to see him.

                              NINETTE

                    Ishikawa?

                              TETSUO

                    Oh, so you two know each other?

                    Well isn't that a surprise.

                              KAZUO

                    Don't you dare hurt her!

                              TETSUO

                    Have I mentioned hurting her? I

                    don't think so. Seiichi would not

                    like that one bit.

                              NINETTE

                    Seiichi? Who is he?

                              TETSUO

                    Your fiance, of course. The man who

                    paid good money to marry you, but

                    because your father is a mindless

                    idiot Seiichi's had to resort to

                    other measures to get a hold of

                    you.

                              NINETTE

                    You take back what you said about

                    my father.

                              TETSUO

                    I don't think I will. The truth

                    hurts doesn't it.

          Kazuo struggles to remove the handcuffs. Tetsuo pulls out

          his gun and points it at Kazuo.

                              TETSUO

                    I wouldn't try anything if I were

                    you. I have to kill you like I did

                    your mother, I will. To get my

                    point across,

          Tetsuo shoots Kazuo in the arm. Kazuo screams in pain.

                              TETSUO

                    If you need anything, don't bother

                    screaming.

          Tetsuo leaves and locks the door. Ninette pulls her legs

          through her arms and stands up.

                              NINETTE

                    Ishikawa, are you alright?

                              KAZUO

                    I've had worse. Come over here, I

                    can get us uncuffed.

          Ninette walks over to him.

                              KAZUO

                    Put one of your earrings in my

                    hand.

          Ninette does as she's told and Kazuo starts to unlock his

          handcuffs. He is successful and he uncuffs Ninette.

                              KAZUO

                    Are you alright?

                              NINETTE

                    Yes, I'm fine.

          She helps him up.

                              KAZUO

                    Let's start looking for a way out.

                              NINETTE

                    The door is locked and this place

                    is sealed shut. There's not even a

                    ventilation system in here. We're

                    stuck until he comes to open the

                    door.

                              KAZUO

                    There is always another way out. Do

                    you have a gun on you?

                              NINETTE

                    I have my mouse gun if that's good

                    enough.

                              KAZUO

                    Perfect.

          She pulls out her gun and hands it to him. He checks for

          bullets and then aims towards the door.

                              KAZUO

                    There has to be someone outside

                    that door. Go up to the door and

                    ask if you can use the bathroom or

                    something. When they start to

                    unlock the door, you get down and

                    I'll shoot them down. Understand?

                              NINETTE

                    Yes.

          Kazuo sets up to shoot. Ninette steps up to the door.

                              NINETTE

                    Hello, is someone there?

                              GUARD

                    Yeah, what do you want?

                              NINETTE

                    I need to use the toilet. If you

                    haven't noticed there's not one in

                    here. Even if there was, it would

                    be uncomfortable with someone else

                    in here. So, can you escort me to

                    the bathroom?

          Ninette places her ear to the door and hears some murmuring.

                              GUARD

                    Yeah, one second.

          Ninette walks down a few steps and sits, covering her head.

          When the door opens, Kazuo shoots the guard and the person

          behind him. He runs up the stairs and helps Ninette up. They

          run out of the basement and down the hall to another door.

          When they open it, they step into Tetsuo's office that is

          styled exactly like the one at the Saita Corps except for

          the row of chairs against the wall. Tetsuo is sitting behind

          his desk.

                              TETSUO

                    Deja vu. Good job getting out.

          Kazuo aims the gun at Tetsuo's head.

                              KAZUO

                    It ends here, Furusawa.

                              TETSUO

                    I'll say it does.

          He kicks the desk towards them. Ninette jumps out of the

          room. Kazuo jumps up on top of the desk.

                              TETSUO

                    Learned from your mistakes?

                              KAZUO

                    Princess, get out.

          Ninette runs through the hall again trying to find a way

          out.

          Kazuo shoots at Tetsuo but misses. Tetsuo pulls a gun from

          his pocket and starts to shoot, Kazuo runs out of the line

          of fire. Kazuo grabs one of the chairs against the wall and

          throw it at him. Tetsuo is caught off guard but ducks. When

          he turns around, Kazuo is there and kicks him in the face

          causing him to fall on his back.

          Ninette reaches the front door and opens it to reveal

          Daisuke and the others who all have their guns aimed at her.

                              NINETTE

                    Thank god, you're all here.

          They all put their guns down. Ninette runs to Yuuto and hugs

          him. He tenses up. He starts to push Ninette away.

                              YUUTO

                    Too much intimacy.

          They hear some crashing coming from the other end of the

          house.

                              DAISUKE

                    Is that Ishikawa?

                              NINETTE

                    They're fighting in his study.

                              RYOICHI

                    Let's go.

                              DAISUKE

                    Yuuto, get Ninette out of here.

          Yuuto nods and him and Ninette leave. Daisuke and Ryoichi

          lead in, Shinobu following behind.

          Back in the study, Tetsuo throws Kazuo into the bookshelf.

          He goes in for a punch but Kazuo steps to the side and tips

          the bookshelf towards Tetsuo, who rolls back out of the way.

          Tetsuo grabs the gun that was dropped and points it at

          Kazuo.

                              TETSUO

                    You know, you remind me of myself.

                    Following someone just to kill

                    them. I followed your mother and

                    you followed me all because of

                    revenge.

                              KAZUO

                    I am nothing like you.

                              TETSUO

                    I beg to differ.

          He shoots, Kazuo ducks and kicks the gun in Tetsuo's hand up

          in the air. It is then grabbed by someone. It is Kazuo and

          he points the gun at Tetsuo.

                              KAZUO

                    I will never be like you.

          Tetsuo laughs.

                              TETSUO

                    You can't change what is already

                    done. You already are me.

          Daisuke and the others reach the door to the study and see

          Tetsuo and Kazuo.

                              TETSUO

                    Once you kill me, your revenge

                    mission is done but you will have

                    no soul left. Revenge eats away at

                    it. Kill me if you don't want it

                    anymore. If you do, then I suggest

                    you walk away and let me live.

          Kazuo is silent for a moment.

                              KAZUO

                    I lost my soul when you killed my

                    mother.

          Kazuo shoots Tetsuo right between the eyes. As Tetsuo falls

          back, Kazuo limps his way over to the door. Shinobu and

          Daisuke push the desk out of the way to let him through.

                              RYOICHI

                    Do you need help?

                              KAZUO

                    I'm fine.

          Once outside, Kazuo falls to his knees. Daisuke runs over to

          him.

                              DAISUKE

                    Ishikawa!

          Kazuo starts to laugh quietly.

                              KAZUO

                    It's over... I did it.

                              DAISUKE

                    Yes, you did.

                              KAZUO

                    I expected to feel different, like

                    I had done something right.

          His laugh turns into tears.

                              KAZUO

                    I expected to feel relief! I

                    expected it would be different!

                    (yelling) He's dead and I feel

                    nothing!? Do I really not have a

                    soul!?

          Daisuke tries to help Kazuo up but he refuses.

                              KAZUO

                    Stop!

          Daisuke pulls back.

                              KAZUO

                    Leave me.

          Daisuke hesitates but walks away. Shinobu and Ryoichi follow

          him. Shinobu looks back at Kazuo.

          EXT/INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. NIGHT.

          Yuuto is sitting on the front steps of the house. Ninette

          walks out of the front door and sits next to him.

                              NINETTE

                    What do you think might have

                    happened?

                              YUUTO

                    They're all fine.

                              NINETTE

                    I'm glad you're so sure.

                              YUUTO

                    Do you not have faith in them?

                              NINETTE

                    You weren't captured by Furusawa.

                    He's tough.

                              YUUTO

                    He's been in the spy business for

                    over twenty years. If he's not

                    tough, there might be a problem.

          Ninette lays her head on Yuuto's shoulder. He jumps and

          looks at her.

                              NINETTE

                    Is this uncomfortable?

                              YUUTO

                    Um... no... you just startled me.

                              NINETTE

                    I'm sorry. I hope someday I will be

                    able to touch you and you not tense

                    up. I want you to be comfortable

                    around me.

                              YUUTO

                         (blushes)

                    I have never had a good experience

                    with physical contact before. I

                    guess something about my past might

                    have caused it.

                              NINETTE

                    Are you going to try to find out?

                              YUUTO

                    About what?

                              NINETTE

                    Your past.

                              YUUTO

                    I don't know how ready I am for

                    that.

          Ninette raises her head and looks at him.

                              NINETTE

                    Maybe if you know what happened,

                    you will be able to rid yourself of

                    your other personalities.

                              YUUTO

                    It's not something you can get rid

                    of easily. It will take more than

                    that to help me.

          Ninette looks away sadden.

                              YUUTO

                    Please do not be sad for me.

                              NINETTE

                    I just wish there was some way

                    to...

          She stops when she hears Daisuke and the others. They look

          to see Daisuke coming through the gate with Shinobu and

          Ryoichi following right behind. Kazuo slowly walks through

          the gate behind them all and closes it.

                              NINETTE

                    You are all alright!

                              DAISUKE

                    We're back and everyone is safe. I

                    contacted Watanabe and he is

                    sending the police to Saita Corps

                    and Furusawa's home. Furusawa is

                    dead.

                              KAZUO

                    As he should be.

                              DAISUKE

                    Yes, with their leader gone, we

                    have put an end to the Chi Sector.

                    Hopefully soon, Watanabe will give

                    us the information for the next

                    sector.

                              RYOICHI

                    Great. I have to get home now, so

                    I'll see you all later.

                              DAISUKE

                    Alright, that's fine. Shinobu, you

                    can also return home.

                              SHINOBU

                    Okay, I'll probably be back

                    tomorrow to do some more work. See

                    you guys later.

          Shinobu and Ryoichi leave the area. Kazuo walks inside of

          the house, leaving the rest outside.

                              NINETTE

                    What's wrong with him? He should be

                    happy that his nemesis is dead.

                              DAISUKE

                    There's a deeper meaning I think.

                    He said he felt no change after he

                    killed Furusawa. Furusawa said that

                    revenge eats away at the soul and

                    that fulfilling your revenge

                    mission will destroy the soul

                    completely. Something about that

                    doesn't sound like a soulless man

                    to me. Do you think Furusawa

                    regretted killing Ishikawa's

                    mother?

                              YUUTO

                    Revenge is never the best way to

                    handle any situation. Furusawa is

                    right though. It can eat away your

                    judgment of right and wrong and who

                    you think you are. From what it

                    sounds like, he still had some soul

                    left, just not enough to make a

                    difference. In a way, he might have

                    regretted it.

                              DAISUKE

                    Is that what makes a soul? Knowing

                    what's right and wrong?

                              YUUTO

                    I don't know, that's just my

                    interpretation.

                              NINETTE

                    If he felt nothing after killing

                    Furusawa, maybe he is not aware of

                    his soul. It's not that he doesn't

                    have one, he just doesn't know he

                    has it because he's been vengeful

                    for so long.

          Daisuke thinks for a moment and walks inside.

          In the basement, Kazuo is violently punching and kicking one

          of the training dummies. Daisuke walks down the stairs and

          sees him.

                              KAZUO

                    What do you want?

                              DAISUKE

                    I don't think you're soulless.

          Kazuo stops.

                              DAISUKE

                    You know what is right and what is

                    wrong. You avenged your mother's

                    death by killing her murderer. You

                    said you felt nothing but something

                    was there. Did you feel regret?

                              KAZUO

                    Why would I feel regret for killing

                    that heartless b*****d?

                              DAISUKE

                    Something was there. I know

                    something was there. You reacted in

                    a way that I had never seen from

                    you. You chased that man for ten

                    years and yet there was nothing?!

                              KAZUO

                         (yelling)

                    I know I'm like him!

          Daisuke is silent.

                              KAZUO

                    I am just like him. I followed him

                    until I knew the time was right and

                    I murdered him.

                              DAISUKE

                    Your reason was a just one.

                              KAZUO

                    Was it? Even if I killed him, there

                    is no way my mother can come back.

                    Is it a just reason when what you

                    want cannot return? I murdered him

                    so I could feel better but it

                    didn't happen because I realized my

                    reason was unjust. I am a soulless

                    man just like him.

          Kazuo walks away from Daisuke and starts to punch the dummy.

                              DAISUKE

                    I still firmly believe you are not.

          Daisuke walks back up the stairs and leaves the basement.
