Operation: Monte Carlo Ep. 6 Never Let Me Go

Ryoichi is in charge of finding out who in the navy has been selling military weapons to the yakuza. Some unexpected findings are revealed and his personal life is jeopardized.

          INT. DIH. MORNING.

          In Kenta's office, Daisuke and the others are present. Kenta

          is sitting behind his desk and MATSANORI NOBU is standing

          behind him in proper navy uniform.

                              KENTA

                    It's been a week since we found

                    Kojima Shizuka and the Sui Sector.

                    We only have the Ka and Ku Sectors

                    to worry about now. Our researchers

                    have been looking into finding them

                    but we've had no such luck. By

                    request of all of you, we have

                    retrieved Lieutenent Commander

                    Matsanori Nobu from the Navy to be

                    your liaison. Your mission this

                    week will be trying to find the

                    person who is selling weapons to

                    the yakuza. Because of his

                    experience with the military,

                    Kawano will be the second head of

                    this mission. Uchida...

                              DAISUKE

                    Yes, sir.

                              KENTA

                    I will leave you responsible with

                    assigning one more member of your

                    group to go with Matsanori and

                    Kawano.

                              DAISUKE

                    I will assign Takanori to go with

                    them.

          Shinobu, Ryoichi, and Kazuo all look at him wide eyed. Yuuto

          bows.

                              YUUTO

                    I am honored to help them.

                              KENTA

                    That settles it. Alright, men,

                    you're dismissed.

          INT/EXT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. MORNING.

          In the study, Daisuke is sitting in a chair watching Shinobu

          pace back and forth. Kazuo and Yuuto are off to the side

          watching them.

                              SHINOBU

                         (angry)

                    Why the hell did you choose Yuuto

                    to go with them? You could have

                    easily given the job to Kazuo.

                              DAISUKE

                    You were the one that told me I

                    should try to separate him and

                    Ninette from now on.

                              YUUTO

                    Shinobu, I will be fine. I don't

                    want to babysit her anymore. I was

                    assigned to this team to do my job,

                    not to babysit some princess.

                              SHINOBU

                    Where did that attitude come from?

                    A week ago, you would have jumped

                    for a chance to be her bodyguard

                    for a day.

                              YUUTO

                    A lot has changed since then.

                              DAISUKE

                    Did the two of you get into a

                    fight?

          Yuuto has a flashback to when Ninette killed Shizuka and his

          memory of his father's death. He comes back.

                              YUUTO

                    Not exactly.

          Ninette enters.

                              NINETTE

                    Good morning, gentlemen.

          They all look over to her. Yuuto quickly leaves the room.

          Ninette watches him go.

                              KAZUO

                    What did you do this time,

                    princess?

                              NINETTE

                    What do you mean 'what did I do'?

                              DAISUKE

                    This past week, he's been very

                    distant from you. Every time you

                    are around, he leaves. Ever since

                    you killed Shizuka, he's been like

                    that.

                              NINETTE

                    So it's my fault even though you

                    don't have proof.

                              SHINOBU

                    We're just putting pieces together.

                    That's all. Did anything else

                    happen that day that might have

                    upset him?

          Ninette turns away from them.

                              NINETTE

                    I took him a psychologist before we

                    met with Shizuka.

          Daisuke walks towards her.

                              DAISUKE

                    Why? Didn't we say that we should

                    focus on your safety, not his past?

                              NINETTE

                    It wasn't just me. I brought it up

                    and he went along with it. It's as

                    much his fault as it is mine. Don't

                    blame me for everything.

                              DAISUKE

                    It is your fault because you

                    brought it up.

          Shinobu interrupts.

                              SHINOBU

                    Did he find out anything?

          Daisuke and Ninette look at him.

                              NINETTE

                    What?

                              SHINOBU

                    Did he find out anything new about

                    his past?

          Daisuke walks away from her and sits back down.

                              NINETTE

                    He found out that his father was

                    murdered.

                              KAZUO

                    Sato Ichiro was murdered?

          Ninette nods.

                              SHINOBU

                    That makes better sense than him

                    being missing for twenty-five

                    years. Did he find out who killed

                    him?

                              NINETTE

                    Yuuto said he couldn't see her face

                    but she was wearing the blue dress

                    that Noboru keeps mentioning. Rei

                    knows about it too, and if she

                    knows, Katashi knows too.

                              SHINOBU

                    How do they all know about it if

                    only one experienced the memory?

                              NINETTE

                    Yuuto might have another

                    personality.

                              KAZUO

                    Have you seen it?

                              NINETTE

                    No, he told the psychologist that

                    he keeps seeing a black figure in a

                    blue dress. He said that that's

                    usually a sign of another alter. He

                    doesn't think its taken over him

                    yet but he fears that it might.

          They are all silent for a moment.

                              SHINOBU

                    This is bad. If that personality is

                    modeled after the person that

                    killed his father, its not going to

                    be good for us.

          Daisuke walks back over to Ninette.

                              DAISUKE

                    I have a feeling if he learns more,

                    that personality could come out. If

                    it is a killer personality, we are

                    all at stake, even you. Stop trying

                    to help him. It will be better for

                    all of us and him. Do you

                    understand?

          Ninette slowly nods and walks out of the room.

                              SHINOBU

                    Do not be hard on her. She has had

                    her fill of turmoil as well.

                              DAISUKE

                    That doesn't give her the right to

                    put everyone in danger.

          Daisuke leaves the room.

          Outside in the garden, Ryoichi and Nobu are walking along

          the stone path. There are several varieties of plants

          surrounding them.

                              NOBU

                    So much has happened in nine years.

                    How has your life been?

                              RYOICHI

                    Hectic, actually.

                              NOBU

                    How is Eri?

          Ryoichi is silent.

                              RYOICHI

                    She... passed away two years ago in

                    a freak accident.

                              NOBU

                    I'm sorry to hear about that. She

                    seemed like an amazing woman from

                    what you told me during training.

                              RYOICHI

                    Yeah, she was an angel.

                              NOBU

                    What about children? That's why you

                    were discharged, right?

                              RYOICHI

                    Yeah, Ken'ichi, my only son. He

                    just turned nine more than a week

                    ago.

                              NOBU

                    Nine year old son, wow.

                              RYOICHI

                    What about you? Have you dedicated

                    your life to the navy?

                              NOBU

                    Not completely.

          Nobu pulls out his wallet from his pocket and shows Ryoichi

          a small picture of a woman and a small girl.

                              RYOICHI

                    Wife and daughter?

                              NOBU

                    Girlfriend and daughter. We haven't

                    gotten married yet. Her parents

                    don't want her to marry yet even

                    though we have a three year old

                    daughter.

                              RYOICHI

                    How old is your girlfriend?

                              NOBU

                    Twenty-three.

                              RYOICHI

                    Wow. She's beautiful.

                              NOBU

                    She's very devoted and a great

                    mother too. Hopefully, marriage

                    won't be too far away.

          Ryoichi nods.

                              NOBU

                    Have you found someone else since

                    Eri passed or have you stayed

                    devoted to her?

                              RYOICHI

                    Well, I have been seeing someone.

                    She's my son's teacher.

                              NOBU

                    Ooh, scandalous.

                              RYOICHI

                    Is it really?

                              NOBU

                    Not really, its just not something

                    you run into everyday. Does she

                    like you?

                              RYOICHI

                    I don't know if she likes me like

                    that. It's hard to tell.

          The two of them spot Yuuto walking towards them with his

          head down.

                              RYOICHI

                    Hey, Yuuto.

          Yuuto walks right past them. Ryoichi walks after him.

                              RYOICHI

                    Hey, are you feeling well?

          Ryoichi turns him around and Yuuto falls.

                              NOBU

                    Is he okay?

                              RYOICHI

                    Yuuto! Wake up!

          Yuuto quickly stands up and salutes them.

                              YUUTO(KATASHI)

                    It is a honor to be in the presence

                    of a military officer like myself.

                              NOBU

                    Yourself?

                              YUUTO(KATASHI)

                    That's right. I've had to deal with

                    these government agents for the

                    past few weeks and they don't know

                    how to deal with military matters.

                    Even though you are in the navy,

                    you have my utmost respect.

          Nobu looks at Ryoichi and then back at Yuuto.

                              NOBU

                    What branch of the military do you

                    serve?

                              YUUTO(KATASHI)

                    The Imperial Army.

          Nobu leans into whisper into Ryoichi's ear.

                              NOBU

                    He does realize that the Imperial

                    Army was disintegrated in 1945,

                    right?

                              RYOICHI

                    I'll explain it to you later.

                              NOBU

                    What's your name, soldier?

                              YUUTO(KATASHI)

                    I am no soldier, I am General Goto

                    Katashi.

          Nobu leans in again.

                              NOBU

                    He's not old enough to be a

                    general.

                              RYOICHI

                    Because he's not.

          Ryoichi smiles to Yuuto and turns away from him. Nobu does

          the same. They talk quietly to each other.

                              NOBU

                    Is he mental or something?

                              RYOICHI

                    You hit the nail on the head, my

                    friend. You see, Yuuto has multiple

                    personalities and one of them,

                    (points to Yuuto) that one, is a

                    general from WWII. He's very

                    aggressive and protective so he is

                    kind of helpful. Just go along with

                    it and hopefully, Yuuto will be

                    back to normal in no time.

                              NOBU

                    Why isn't he in a mental facility?

                              RYOICHI

                    Because he's still sane enough for

                    the government to use him.

                              YUUTO(KATASHI)

                    Are you two done, yet? We have

                    major business to attend to. It

                    would be nice to get it over and

                    done with so this medicine doesn't

                    wear off.

                              RYOICHI

                    If Yuuto's on medication, how are

                    you here?

                              YUUTO(KATASHI)

                    No time for triviality, men. We

                    must make haste. Lieutinent

                    Commander Matsanori Nobu, take me

                    to your Admiral.

          Nobu snickers.

                              NOBU

                    I don't know rather to hit this guy

                    or give him a medal. He's awesome.

                              RYOICHI

                    I'm glad you think so.

          EXT/INT. JMSDF FLEET HEADQUARTERS. NOON.

          At the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force Fleet

          Headquarters, Nobu is leading Ryoichi and Yuuto down a hall

          with several navy men at work. Ryoichi is carrying a file

          full of papers.

                              NOBU

                    Admiral Shibata and Vice Admiral

                    Hasegawa are my superiors. If

                    something is going wrong, they will

                    be the ones to ask.

                              RYOICHI

                    Are they decent superiors or are

                    they the ones with a flagpole

                    jammed up their a*s?

                              NOBU

                    You can trust these officers with

                    your life. They take care of their

                    lower-ranked officers like they

                    were family.

                              RYOICHI

                    So they will help us?

                              NOBU

                    Of course.

          They reach the end of the hallway and enter a door to a

          small waiting room. Nobu walks over to the female

          receptionist behind the desk.

                              NOBU

                    I had a private appointment with

                    Admiral Shibata.

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    Let me check to see if he's busy.

          She walks over to the only other door in the room and

          knocks.

                              SHIBATA

                         (other side)

                    I'm ready for them.

          The receptionist opens the door and invites Nobu and the

          others in. Ryoichi looks at Yuuto.

                              RYOICHI

                    You should probably keep quiet or

                    stay out here.

                              YUUTO(KATASHI)

                    I will have my place in this

                    meeting, son.

                              RYOICHI

                    At least address yourself as Yuuto

                    while you're in front of the

                    Admiral.

                              YUUTO(KATASHI)

                    Fine.

          Yuuto walks past him, Ryoichi follows. They enter to see an

          Admiral SHIBATA SAITOSHI sitting behind his desk. Vice

          Admiral HASEGAWA USAGI is standing behind him. There are two

          chairs in front of the desk. Nobu, Yuuto, and Ryoichi

          salute. Shibata and Usagi salute them. Hasegawa stands at

          full attention in her uniform.

                              SHIBATA

                    It's good to see you, Commander

                    Matsanori. Are these the government

                    agents?

                              NOBU

                    Yes, sir. This is Kawano Ryoichi,

                    he was a private in the Ground

                    Self-Defense Force nine years ago

                    before being honorably discharged.

                    He specializes in weapons. Beside

                    him is Takanori Yuuto, he is an

                    applied psychologist who

                    specializes in body language and

                    microexpressions. He's a defiance

                    expert.

                              SHIBATA

                    It is good to meet both of you. I

                    am Admiral Shibata and this is my

                    Vice Admiral Hasegawa. We

                    understand that you think someone

                    in the navy is selling weapons to a

                    yakuza clan.

                              RYOICHI

                    Yes, we have some suspicion.

                              SHIBATA

                    Please sit down.

          Ryoichi and Yuuto sit.

                              SHIBATA

                    What information do you have?

                              RYOICHI

                    Concerning our current mission, we

                    found records of Kojima Shizuka who

                    was commander for the Japanese navy

                    about ten years ago. She was

                    honorably discharged after twelve

                    years of service for parenthood. We

                    have found that she had only one

                    biological child that was being

                    raised in Monaco around that time.

                    Also, for the last ten years, she

                    has been working with the Sakamoto

                    yakuza clan under the name Minoto

                    Shizuka.

                              SHIBATA

                    I remember Commander Shizuka. She

                    was a highly esteemed commander

                    with a four point zero conduct

                    rating. She had nothing against her

                    when she left.

                              RYOICHI

                    Was she close to anybody? Someone

                    who can sign out weapons maybe?

                              HASEGAWA

                    Kawano-san, only officers ranked

                    higher than Rear Admiral can sign

                    out weapons. I know every one of

                    these men and none have dared tried

                    to sell weapons to discharged

                    officers.

                              RYOICHI

                    We understand that you trust these

                    men but that still does not change

                    the fact that we found military

                    weapons in one of the yakuza

                    controlled buildings. The only way

                    they could have gotten there is if

                    someone in the military is selling

                    it to them. Because Kojima was in

                    the navy, we assume that she still

                    had ties with someone that can sign

                    out weapons.

                              HASEGAWA

                         (affirmatively)

                    Every man in this navy knows the

                    consequences for doing so! None of

                    our men or women would dare do such

                    a thing!

                              SHIBATA

                    Hasegawa!

          Hasegawa backs away and bows.

                              HASEGAWA

                    I apologize, Admiral.

                              SHIBATA

                    Hasegawa is right, though. Besides,

                    we have no record of any missing

                    weapons.

          Ryoichi looks through the files in his hand and hands a few

          pictures to Shibata who takes them.

                              RYOICHI

                    These are photos of the weapons

                    found at Saita Corporations in

                    Kita. They are naval weapons which

                    were signed off by Kojima Shizuka.

          He pulls out two forms and lays them on Shibata's desk.

          There are two lines at the bottom, one with Shizuka's name,

          the other line is marked out with black ink.

                              RYOICHI

                    These are the forms we found in

                    Kojima's office They are legal

                    documentation of weapon

                    distribution signed by Kojima

                    Shizuka and an unknown navy

                    officer. This is our proof that

                    there is illegal trading going on

                    between the Japanese navy and the

                    Sakamoto yakuza clan.

          Shibata looks closely at the pictures and the documents. He

          lays them down.

                              SHIBATA

                    We will look into this on our own

                    time. We cannot have government

                    officials wandering around keeping

                    our officers from working.

                              RYOICHI

                    But, sir...

                              SHIBATA

                    That is final. Admiral Hasegawa and

                    myself will look into this matter

                    among the other officers. Commander

                    Matsanori,

                              NOBU

                    Yes, sir.

                              SHIBATA

                    Lead these gentlemen out, please.

          Yuuto looks up at Hasegawa and notices she is tense. Ryoichi

          shakes Yuuto's shoulder.

                              RYOICHI

                    Let's go.

          Yuuto stands and they salute Shibata and Hasegawa. Nobu,

          Ryoichi and Yuuto exit. Shibata stands from his desk and

          walks over to the window.

                              HASEGAWA

                    Who do you think is behind it,

                    Admiral?

                              SHIBATA

                    Whoever it is, they will pay the

                    price for their crime.

          Hasegawa looks back down at the pictures and the documents.

          Outside, Ryoichi is pacing in front of a bench, Nobu is

          standing beside of it, and Yuuto is sitting. Yuuto is

          contemplating.

                              RYOICHI

                    I can't believe this. This is

                    annoying. All we want to do is

                    interrogate the officers. Is that

                    so hard to ask for.

                              NOBU

                    It's the navy, you're never going

                    to get a straight answer.

                              RYOICHI

                    Annoying!

                              YUUTO

                    Both of them are hiding something.

          Ryoichi looks at Yuuto and leans in to look at his eyes.

                              YUUTO

                    What are you doing?

                              RYOICHI

                    Are you Yuuto?

                              YUUTO

                    Yes.

                              RYOICHI

                    He's back! Did the medicine wear

                    off?

                              YUUTO

                    Not yet.

                              RYOICHI

                    Anyway, about them hiding

                    something.

                              YUUTO

                    Well, Admiral Shibata looked too

                    calm. If you are faced with the

                    facts that one of your men has been

                    doing something illegal, it should

                    come as a shock to you. Admiral

                    Hasegawa had the appropriate

                    reaction but was too defensive.

                              NOBU

                    Are you saying that they might have

                    something to do with it?

                              YUUTO

                    It is just a suggestion. Hasegawa

                    might just be very passionate about

                    her officers and crew that it is

                    natural to be very defensive.

                    Because of Shibata's age and

                    experience, his reaction might just

                    be years of hiding any true

                    emotion.

                              RYOICHI

                    So your expertise is completely

                    useless on them?

                              YUUTO

                    Not neccesarily, it will just be

                    harder. 

                              RYOICHI

                    Harder doesn't help.

                              NOBU

                    You got all of that just by looking

                    at their reactions.

                              YUUTO

                    Yeah.

                              NOBU

                    That's cool. I should have gone

                    into psychology.

                              YUUTO

                    I'm not an actual psychologist,

                    I...

          Yuuto falls backwards off the bench. Nobu goes to help him

          up. Yuuto stands up quickly.

                              YUUTO(KATASHI)

                    What did I miss?

                              RYOICHI

                         (to himself)

                    He's gone again. Curse you, Yuuto.

                              NOBU

                    Does he only have two

                    personalities?

                              RYOICHI

                    Nobu, you are too interested in him

                    for your own good.

          INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. NOON.

          Ninette is laying on her bed reading a book when Daisuke

          enters the room.

                              DAISUKE

                    Ninette?

                              NINETTE

                    Are you here to yell at me some

                    more?

                              DAISUKE

                    No, I need to ask you something.

                              NINETTE

                    If it has anything to do with Yuuto

                    or my mother, I don't want to hear

                    it.

                              DAISUKE

                    It's not. Will you just listen?

          Ninette sits up and faces him.

                              DAISUKE

                    I just got a call from Ryoichi. He

                    needs someone to look after his son

                    tonight and he was wondering if you

                    might want to.

                              NINETTE

                    Why me?

                              DAISUKE

                    Well, we know how cooped up you get

                    in this house and it will be good

                    for you to have a change of

                    scenery.

                              NINETTE

                    You're actually going to let me

                    leave?

                              DAISUKE

                    You better agree before I change my

                    mind.

                              NINETTE

                    Alright, I'll go.

                              DAISUKE

                    Don't mention anything about you

                    being a princess or anything about

                    the mission. His son doesn't know

                    what he does and he plans to keep

                    it that way, got it?

          Ninette nods. He hands her a small piece of paper.

                              DAISUKE

                    Be at his house around sixteen

                    o'clock. His son will be back from

                    school by then.

                              NINETTE

                    You trust me to go out and not get

                    caught?

                              DAISUKE

                    After what happened with you and

                    Shizuka, the last thing I'm worried

                    about is you getting kidnapped

                    again.

          Daisuke leaves. Ninette starts to pack some things.

          INT. RYOICHI'S APARTMENT. AFTERNOON.

          There is a knock on the door. Ken'ichi runs to answer it and

          reveals Ninette who is dressed in more modest clothes.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    Hello, are you Ninette?

                              NINETTE

                    Yes, how did you...

                              KEN'ICHI

                    My dad called and told me you were

                    coming. I'm Ken'ichi.

                              NINETTE

                    Oh.

          Ken'ichi motions for her to come in. She walks in and takes

          off her shoes. Ken'ichi closes the door and runs back into

          his room. Ninette walks into the living room and puts down

          her purse.

                              NINETTE

                    You and your father have a nice

                    apartment.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    Thanks. My teacher has been coming

                    by recently to take care of me and

                    the house. She's really nice.

                              NINETTE

                    Your teacher?

                              KEN'ICHI

                    Yeah, my dad's been taking her out

                    on his night's off. Do you work

                    with my dad?

                              NINETTE

                    Uh... yeah.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    You don't look like a salary woman.

                              NINETTE

                    I...didn't have to work today so I

                    dressed normal.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    I wish dad had a day off.

          Ninette sits on the couch. Ken'ichi sits beside her.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    Ninette is not a Japanese name. Can

                    I ask you where you come from?

          Ninette's eyes widen.

                              NINETTE

                    I'm from...uh...France. Paris,

                    actually.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    Awesome, do you eat snails?

                              NINETTE

                    Uh?!

                              KEN'ICHI

                    My teacher told us that French

                    people eat snails.

          Ninette thinks and then it hits her.

                              NINETTE

                    Oh, escargot. Yes, I've had it.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    Is it slimy?

                              NINETTE

                    No, it's actually chewy, like a

                    clam or an oyster. I like it with

                    lots of garlic and cheese.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    I wish I could try it.

          Ninette ponders and then her eyes light up.

                              NINETTE

                    There is a French restaurant that I

                    can take you to. It's in the next

                    district but I'm sure your dad

                    won't mind me taking you. I don't

                    really know how to cook so if I

                    cook you something it won't turn

                    out good.

          Ken'ichi's eyes also light up.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    That would be awesome!

                              NINETTE

                    Alright, we'll go around nineteen

                    o'clock, okay?

                              KEN'ICHI

                    Okay.

          INT. RESTAURANT. EVENING.

          Yumiko and Ryoichi are sitting at a elegantly decorated

          table, they have finished their meal. Yumiko is laughing at

          something that was just said.

                              YUMIKO

                    Kawano-san, this has been a

                    wonderful night. I haven't had this

                    much fun in a long time.

                              RYOICHI

                    I am glad you have enjoyed

                    yourself. If you want, you can call

                    me Ryoichi.

                              YUMIKO

                    Ryoichi. (pause) Can I let you know

                    something?

                              RYOICHI

                    Of course.

                              YUMIKO

                    I want to let you know that you

                    have helped me get through a tough

                    time in my life. I have been able

                    to let go and cherish new things.

                    Taking care of Ken'ichi has helped

                    me as well. I'm so happy that you

                    came into my life.

          Ryoichi smiles and so does she.

                              RYOICHI

                    Excuse me for being nervous, I

                    haven't done this in almost ten

                    years. Time's have also changed so

                    asking you to be my girlfriend

                    seems immature.

                              YUMIKO

                    Are you asking me to be your

                    girlfriend?

                              RYOICHI

                    Well...yeah...I just can't put it

                    into mature words. The last time I

                    did something like this was for my

                    wife and we were not even twenty at

                    that point.

                              YUMIKO

                    You're asking me to go steady?

                              RYOICHI

                    That's a better way of putting it,

                    going steady, being something more

                    than friends but not rushing into

                    anything intimate.

          Yumiko smiles.

                              YUMIKO

                    I would love to be more than

                    friends with you.

          Ryoichi smiles wide and he relaxes.

                              RYOICHI

                    I'm glad that's off my shoulders.

                              YUMIKO

                    Do you think Ken'ichi will find it

                    odd?

                              RYOICHI

                    Well, I asked him and he said that

                    it would be fine. He likes you and

                    he does see you as a mother figure.

          Yumiko starts to tear but she covers her eyes with her

          napkin.

                              RYOICHI

                    Are you alright?

                              YUMIKO

                    I'm fine. I've always wanted be a

                    mother to someone. I've always had

                    a motherly instinct but for someone

                    to see me as that makes it worth

                    more.

          Ryoichi takes her hand. They smile at each other.

          EXT/INT. SHIBUYA/TRAIN STATION. EVENING.

          Ninette and Ken'ichi walk out of the French restaurant.

          Ken'ichi has a wide smile on his face.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    That was so good!

                              NINETTE

                    So you like French food now?

                              KEN'ICHI

                    Yeah, it's really good.

                              NINETTE

                    I should probably get you home. I

                    don't know when your father will be

                    getting back.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    He's usually late. We'll get back

                    way before he does.

          In another part of the district, Yuuto is walking along an

          alley confused. He looks up and spots a couple of suspicious

          men. The two men walk around the corner. Yuuto starts to

          follow them.

          Ryoichi and Yumiko are walking down the street and turn into

          an uncrowded alley.

                              RYOICHI

                    I think if we go through here we

                    can get to the station quicker.

                              YUMIKO

                    Alright.

          Ryoichi spots Yuuto up ahead.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    Daddy!

          Ryoichi and Yumiko turn around to see Ken'ichi and Ninette.

                              RYOICHI

                    Ken'ichi?

          Yuuto turns around to see them. He sees the two suspicious

          men coming up behind Ninette. He heads over to them.

                              YUUTO

                         (yelling)

                    Ninette!

          One of the men puts her in a choke hold. Ken'ichi runs over

          to Ryoichi. Ryoichi takes Yumiko's hand.

                              RYOICHI

                    Yumiko, take Ken'ichi and run.

          Yumiko nods. She takes Ken'ichi's hand.

                              YUMIKO

                    Let's go.

          As they run off, Yuuto reaches Ryoichi and pulls out his gun

          and aims it towards the men and sees the other one is

          missing.

                              YUUTO

                    Let go of the princess now.

                              MAN 1

                    You wouldn't shoot. If you try, you

                    will shoot her. I don't think you

                    want that.

                              YUUTO

                    Ryoichi, you should go with your

                    son. I will take care of this.

                              RYOICHI

                    Alright.

          Ryoichi runs off in the direction of his son and Yumiko.

          Yumiko and Ken'ichi run into another alley and hide beside

          two vending machines.

                              YUMIKO

                     Are you alright, Ken'ichi?

          Ken'ichi looks behind her and is frightened. She turns

          around to see the other man standing there.

                              MAN 2

                    Running away so soon?

          He grabs Yumiko's arm and drags her away from Ken'ichi. She

          starts to kick him.

                              YUMIKO

                    Let me go!

          The man is hit in the head with a can. He looks over to see

          where it came from and is hit by another object thrown by

          Ken'ichi.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    Leave her alone!

          The man shoves Yumiko into wall and starts to walk towards

          Ken'ichi.

                              MAN 2

                    I don't like children, especially

                    ones like you, you little brat!

          He goes to grab him but Ken'ichi ducks out of the way and

          runs to Yumiko. He helps her up and they start to run away

          from him. He starts after the two.

          Yuuto is engaged in a fight with Man 1. The man pulls out a

          knife and starts fighting with that; Yuuto dodging

          everything. Yuuto then kicks him on the side of his head and

          he crashes into the wall. Yuuto runs off out of the alley.

          Ninette is running down the crowded streets and runs into

          Yumiko and Ken'ichi.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    Ninette!

                              YUMIKO

                         (to Ninette)

                    Do you know what is going on?

                              NINETTE

                    I was told not to mention anything.

                              YUMIKO

                    We are being chased by someone for

                    no apparent reason. I want to know

                    why.

                              NINETTE

                    I'm a princess, they are after me!

                              KEN'ICHI

                    You're a princess?

                              NINETTE

                    I wasn't supposed to say anything.

                    Daisuke is going to kill me.

                              YUMIKO

                    Why are they after us then?

          Ninette shrugs her shoulders when she spots Man 2.

                              NINETTE

                    We need to go.

          Ninette starts walking away. Yumiko looks back and starts to

          walk with Ken'ichi.

                              YUMIKO

                    Ken'ichi, please hold on tight.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    Okay.

          They start to cross the street towards the station, Man 2

          follows closely. They walk into the station and scan their

          train cards. As they are walking through, Ninette spots the

          women's bathroom.

                              NINETTE

                         (quietly to Yumiko)

                    Let's slip into the bathroom. I can

                    call Yuuto and Ryoichi without him

                    noticing.

          Yumiko nods and they all enter the bathroom. Man 2 stops and

          walks off somewhere else.

          Outside, Ryoichi runs into Yuuto among the crowd.

                              YUUTO

                    Did you find them?

                              RYOICHI

                    No, I didn't. Where's Ninette?

                              YUUTO

                    I don't know. When the guy let her

                    go, she went running.

                              RYOICHI

                    Great. What are you doing here

                    anyway?

                              YUUTO

                    I woke up here. I have no idea how

                    I got here.

                              RYOICHI

                    One of your crazy alters?

                              YUUTO

                    They're all crazy.

          Yuuto's phone goes off. He sees that it is Ninette and

          answers.

                              YUUTO

                    Ninette, where are you?

                              NINETTE

                         (over phone)

                    We're at the train station.

                              YUUTO

                    We?

          In the bathroom of the station, Yumiko is holding Ken'ichi

          close while Ninette's on the phone.

                              NINETTE

                    I ran into Yumiko and Ken'ichi

                    close to the station. We were

                    followed by the other guy whose

                    after me. We're in the bathroom so

                    he can't come in. Are you with

                    Ryoichi?

                              YUUTO

                         (over phone)

                    Yes, he's here.

                              NINETTE

                    Can Ken'ichi talk to him?

          Outside, Yuuto hands the phone to Ryoichi. He takes it and

          puts it up to his ear.

                              RYOICHI

                    This is Ryoichi.

                              KEN'ICHI

                         (over phone)

                    Daddy?

                              RYOICHI

                    Ken'ichi, are you and Nakano-san

                    alright?

                              KEN'ICHI

                         (over phone)

                    We're fine, daddy. What is going

                    on? Why is that man after us?

                              RYOICHI

                    I will explain everything to you

                    and Nakano-san when I find you.

                    We're on our way to get you. Just

                    stay where you are.

                              KEN'ICHI

                         (over phone)

                    Alright.

                              RYOICHI

                    Can we talk to Ninette?

          He hears the phone being passed and then hears Ninette.

                              NINETTE

                         (over phone)

                    You want us to stay here?

                              RYOICHI

                    Yes, stay there. We're on our way.

          He hangs up the phone and hands it back to Yuuto. They head

          in the direction of the station.

          In the bathroom at the station, several minutes later,

          Ninette peaks out of the bathroom.

                              YUMIKO

                    Is he still out there?

                              NINETTE

                    Yeah, he is. If he thinks he's

                    sneaky, he's doing a s****y job at

                    it.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    When is my dad going to get here?

                              NINETTE

                    Hopefully soon.

          Ninette's phone goes off and she answers.

                              NINETTE

                    Yeah?

                              YUUTO

                         (over phone)

                    We're past the gate now, we should

                    be getting close to where you are.

                              NINETTE

                    Alright, we'll walk that way now. I

                    have a good eye on this guy.

          She hangs up and puts the phone back in her purse.

                              NINETTE

                    Come on.

          The three of them exit and head back towards the entrance.

          Man 2 notices and starts to follow them. In a few minutes

          they meet up with Ryoichi and Yuuto. The girls and Ken'ichi

          start to run towards them when Man 2 grabs Ken'ichi's arm

          and drags him away from Yumiko.

                              RYOICHI

                    Ken'ichi!

                              MAN 2

                    Hand over the princess and the kid

                    won't get hurt.

                              RYOICHI

                    Please give me back my son!

                              YUMIKO

                    Don't hurt him, please!

          Ken'ichi bites Man 2's hand. When he releases him, Ken'ichi

          runs towards them. Man 2 pulls out his gun and aims toward

          Ken'ichi.

                              RYOICHI

                    Please don't!

          Yumiko runs towards Ken'ichi and pulls him down to shield

          him when the gun goes off. There are screams from the

          bystanders. Yumiko is shot in the chest and falls over.

                              RYOICHI

                    Yumiko!

          Ryoichi runs towards Man 2 and tackles him. Ryoichi starts

          to punch him. Ken'ichi runs to his father and grabs his fist

          when it comes back up. Ryoichi notices his son in tears with

          blood on him.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    Please stop!

          Ryoichi looks over at Yumiko who is being treated by Yuuto

          and Ninette. Yuuto looks up at Ninette who looks up at him.

          They both turn away. Yuuto picks up Yumiko while Ninette

          grabs her phone. Ryoichi looks around to see all of the

          bystanders staring at him. Ken'ichi hugs his neck and

          Ryoichi hugs him back.

          INT. HOSPITAL. NIGHT.

          Ryoichi and Ken'ichi are sitting outside of the operating

          room. The operation sign above the door is lit. Ryoichi has

          his face in his hands. Yuuto and Ninette are both leaning

          against the wall opposite of them. Ninette looks over at

          Yuuto.

                              NINETTE

                    I'm sorry for whatever I did. I

                    don't exactly know why you are

                    avoiding me. I didn't mean to

                    offend in any way.

          Yuuto is silent. Ninette looks away and then she walks away

          frustrated. Yuuto walks over to Ryoichi and sits next to

          him.

                              YUUTO

                    Ryoichi, I'm sorry about what

                    happened tonight. If you want, I

                    can take Ken'ichi back to your

                    apartment.

                              RYOICHI

                    We can't stay at the apartment

                    tonight. It's not safe. Call

                    Ishikawa and ask him if he has room

                    for Ken'ichi and I to stay there

                    tonight.

                              YUUTO

                    Alright.

          Yuuto pulls out his phone and walks away. Ken'ichi looks up

          at Ryoichi.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    Why is it not safe?

          Ryoichi hesitates. He looks away from Ken'ichi.

                              RYOICHI

                    Ken'ichi, I'm not a salaryman.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    What are you?

                              RYOICHI

                    I used to be in the military but I

                    got out of it because of you. I

                    wanted to be there for you and your

                    mom. I needed to get money in the

                    house so I started working for the

                    government as a weapon specialist.

                    About a month ago, they asked me to

                    be part of a special team that

                    would take care of the princess of

                    Monaco while she was here. We

                    didn't know the full extent of the

                    job until later and now we can't

                    get out of it. Ninette is being

                    hunted down by very evil men and I

                    have to help her. If those men find

                    out about you or Nakano-san, it

                    could be unsafe for you. I'm

                    worried now that they might try to

                    take you or Nakano-san to get

                    Ninette. Do you understand?

                              KEN'ICHI

                    You lied to protect us?

                              RYOICHI

                    Yes. I never wanted you to get

                    hurt.

                              KEN'ICHI

                    What about Nakano-san?

                              RYOICHI

                    I pray everything is going to be

                    okay.

          The operation light goes out and the surgeon walks out.

          Ryoichi stands to met him.

                              RYOICHI

                    Is she alright?

                              SURGEON

                    She is fine. The bullet barely

                    missed her lung. She is still

                    asleep but should be waking up

                    soon.

          The surgeon walks away from them. Ryoichi looks at Ken'ichi

          and smiles with tears in his eyes.

                              RYOICHI

                    She's okay.

          Ryoichi knells down when Ken'ichi runs to him and they hug.

          EXT. MILITARY PORT. NIGHT/MORNING.

          Hasegawa is patroling the port when she sees two men off at

          the end of the port. The motor boat on the side has two

          wooden crates in it. One of the men hands the other a

          clipboard which he signs. The man hands the clipboard back

          and jumps in the boat. Hasegawa pulls out her gun and walks

          towards them.

                              HASEGAWA

                    Stop right there!

          The man in the motor boat turns it on and drives it away.

          The other man runs to the other side of the port. Hasegawa

          pursues him but once she gets to the end and looks in the

          diretion he ran off to, he is gone. Hasegawa lets down her

          guard. The man comes out of the shadows behind her and stabs

          her in the back with a sword. He pulls it out and pushes her

          down.

          In the morning, the entire team is there, including Nobu and

          Shibata. They have part of the port with Hasegawa's body

          blocked off. Daisuke is taking pictures of the scene while

          Shinobu is looking over Hasegawa's body. Yuuto and Kazuo are

          interrogating a seaman off to the side. Nobu and Ryoichi are

          standing with Shibata.

                              NOBU

                    What was Hasegawa doing out here?

                              SHIBATA

                    She was patroling the port. She

                    usually does it at night when

                    everyone is restricted from the

                    port.

                              RYOICHI

                    So the killing was done in the last

                    twelve hours.

          Shinobu comes up to them.

                              SHINOBU

                    She passed on about seven hours ago

                    bled to death from a large puncture

                    wound. She was attacked around

                    midnight.

          Yuuto and Kazuo run up to them.

                              YUUTO

                    One of the seaman we interrogated

                    said that he has security footage

                    of last night that recorded this

                    area.

                              SHIBATA

                    Matsanori, Kawano and I will watch

                    the tape. The rest of you finish up

                    here.

          INT/EXT. JMSDF FLEET HEADQUARTERS. MORNING.

          Shibata, Nobu, and Kawano are watching the security tape of

          Hasegawa's murder. The murderer is dressed in all black with

          his face covered. The boatman has his face revealed but is

          in all black as well.

                              RYOICHI

                    We can see the boatman and the

                    sheet they signed. Ogawa can take

                    this and enhance it so we can see

                    the signature and find out who this

                    boatman is.

                              SHIBATA

                    You mean taking this tape off of

                    Navy property? I will not allow

                    that.

                              NOBU

                    Admiral, you have our word that

                    this will not get out to the

                    public. We can figure this out.

                              SHIBATA

                    I will not allow this tape to leave

                    this property no matter what.

                              RYOICHI

                    What if we have Ogawa do his job

                    here so it doesn't? I'm sure he

                    will be fine with that. If that

                    boatman is part of the yakuza, we

                    could have our culprit.

          Shibata turns away from them and is silent.

                              SHIBATA

                    He will do his work in this room

                    under the survellence of two

                    officers.

                              RYOICHI

                    Thank you sir.

          Outside, a little later, Nobu and Ryoichi are walking

          outside of the building to meet up with Shinobu and the

          others.

                              RYOICHI

                    Ogawa!

                              SHINOBU

                    Yeah?

                              RYOICHI

                    Shibata doesn't want the security

                    video to leave the base so to be

                    able to figure out who the boatman

                    is and who the signature on the

                    clipboard belongs to, you have to

                    do your work here.

                              SHINOBU

                    That's fine. I have to go back to

                    my lab to get the proper equipment,

                    though. I should be back around

                    noon to get that done.

                              RYOICHI

                    Sooner the better. How was Admiral

                    Hasegawa killed?

                              SHINOBU

                    I'm thinking a sword.

                              RYOICHI

                    A sword?

                              SHINOBU

                    She has an entry and exit wound so

                    it was a long object. I'm saying

                    sword because if it was a naval

                    officer, they have a sword that is

                    given to them once they become an

                    admiral.

          Shinobu walks away. Ryoichi looks over at Nobu who seems

          distraught.

                              RYOICHI

                    Are you alright?

                              NOBU

                    It's just hard to believe that

                    someone would do this. Why would

                    someone kill a navy officer who has

                    done nothing but good to them?

                              DAISUKE

                    Money. Money is the root of all

                    evil. I firmly believe that to be

                    true. If someone is paying them

                    good money, they'll do anything. I

                    hate for that to be true about a

                    naval officer but people like that

                    are out there.

                              NOBU

                    But who could it be?

          Yuuto walks up to them.

                              YUUTO

                    I have an idea. Matsanori-san,

                    please do not see this as

                    disrespect but every time I see

                    Admiral Shibata, he gets more and

                    more suspicious.

                              NOBU

                    Are you saying it's him?

                              YUUTO

                    It's just a suspicion. I want to

                    get into his office somehow.

                              NOBU

                    Sneaking into an admiral's office

                    is automatic discharge. I can't do

                    that.

                              YUUTO

                    But I can. If no one has told you,

                    I'm a master thief.

          Nobu looks at Ryoichi and Daisuke who both nod.

                              NOBU

                    You can get in his office?

                              YUUTO

                    Well, he can't be in there and the

                    receptionist has to be distracted.

          Kazuo walks up, overhearing the conversation.

                              KAZUO

                    I can pull off a diversion. We'll

                    need Matsanori-san to get in.

                              YUUTO

                    Ryoichi and Daisuke, if Shibata is

                    the culprit, Shinobu will need

                    backup. Can you take care of that?

                              DAISUKE

                    We'll watch out for him.

                              RYOICHI

                    I will get Shibata out of his

                    office and to the security room.

                    Then Ishikawa and Matsanori can

                    distract the receptionist so Yuuto

                    can get into Shibata's office.

                              DAISUKE

                    Sounds like a plan. Let's be back

                    here at noon. Matsanori, make sure

                    Shibata doesn't do anything with

                    that tape.

                              NOBU

                    You got it.

          The group disperses.

          INT. HOSPITAL. MID-MORNING.

          In Yumiko's hospital room, Yumiko is sitting up in her bed,

          Ryoichi sitting in a chair beside her. Yumiko looks

          emotionally torn.

                              YUMIKO

                    So you're a government agent and

                    the man who shot me was a member of

                    a yakuza group.

                              RYOICHI

                    Yes. The only reason I kept it a

                    secret from you and Ken'ichi was

                    because I was afriad of the two of

                    you getting hurt. I don't want

                    anything happening to either of

                    you.

                              YUMIKO

                    I understand that, Ryoichi, but...

                              RYOICHI

                    If you can't forgive for lying to

                    you, I understand. If you want to

                    seperate because of it, I

                    understand that too.

                              YUMIKO

                    No, please don't think that!

          Yumiko reaches for Ryoichi hand.

                              YUMIKO

                    I care about you, Ryoichi, and I

                    adore Ken'ichi. Nothing in the

                    world can change that. I'm trying

                    to take this all in, its

                    overwhelming. I need time to take

                    this in but I don't want to lose

                    you! I love you!

          Ryoichi looks up at her and sees the tears in her eyes. He

          moves to sit on the bed and embraces her.

                              RYOICHI

                    I love you too.

          They hold like that for a few more seconds before

          seperating. Ryoichi kisses her on the cheeks and their

          foreheads meet.

                              RYOICHI

                    I have one more thing to take care

                    of today. After that, I will come

                    back to you.

          Yumiko nods. He kisses her again and stands. He walks out of

          her room. She smiles as she watches him leave.

          INT. JMSDF FLEET HEADQUARTERS. NOON.

          Shinobu enters the security room with Daisuke and Ryoichi.

          They greet the officers in the room and shows them their

          badges. Once they are checked, Shinobu sets up his equipment

          near the computers and begins working. Daisuke nods to

          Ryoichi and he exits the room.

          In the room next to the waiting room for Shibata's office,

          Yuuto and Kazuo are waiting.

                              KAZUO

                    Ryoichi should be reaching this

                    point in a few minutes.

                              YUUTO

                    I sure hope this works.

                              KAZUO

                    You and everyone else on this team.

          Kazuo peaks out of the room and sees Ryoichi coming up from

          the hall.

                              KAZUO

                    He's here.

          Ryoichi enters the waiting room and walks up to the

          receptionist.

                              RYOICHI

                    Our forensic specialist has found

                    something that Admiral Shibata

                    might want to see.

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    Let me see if he's busy.

          She walks over to the door and enters. Nobu is there with

          Shibata. Shibata is sitting behind his desk, working.

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    Admiral Shibata.

                              SHIBATA

                    Yes, what is it?

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    The agent out here says that their

                    specialist has found something you

                    might want to see.

          Shibata puts down his pen and stands. He walks out of the

          room, Nobu follows, and meets Ryoichi who salutes him.

                              SHIBATA

                    Let's see what he found.

                              RYOICHI

                    Yes sir.

          The three of them exit the waiting room but Nobu stops

          outside of the room where Yuuto and Kazuo are. He waits

          until Shibata and Ryoichi are out of sight before knocking.

          Kazou answers.

                              NOBU

                    Let's go.

          Kazuo and Nobu enter the waiting room again.

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    Commander Matsanori, did you forget

                    something?

                              NOBU

                    Something has happened on the other

                    side of headquarters. Ishikawa-san

                    was a witness, they need your help

                    with something.

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    Alright.

                              KAZUO

                    Follow me, please.

          Kazuo and the receptionist exit the room. Yuuto notices and

          slips inside the waiting room, closing the door behind him.

                              NOBU

                    His office is clear, you can go in.

          Yuuto pulls out rubber gloves from his pocket and puts them

          on. He enters the room and closes the door. He goes straight

          for Shibata's desk and looks through drawers. He looks

          through the documents and comes across several documents

          that are signed by Shibata. He pulls them out and reads

          them.

                              YUUTO

                    Artillery distribution form.

          He looks through all of the forms and gets to the last few

          that have Shibata's signature marked out with back ink. He

          closes the drawer and walks to the door with the forms.

                              YUUTO

                    I hate when I'm right.

          He exits and walks past Nobu. This conversation is happening

          while they exit the waiting room and walk down the halls.

                              YUUTO

                    We need to get to Shibata. It is

                    him.

                              NOBU

                    You found something?

                              YUUTO

                    The exact forms that were found in

                    Kojima Shizuka's office. He is

                    quite possibly the one who murdered

                    Hasegawa.

                              NOBU

                    It can't be.

          Shibata and Ryoichi enter the security room. The two

          officers that were there previously are now gone. Shinobu

          has two images up on his computer, one of a facial

          comparison between the face on the footage and a mug shot of

          SAKAMOTO SEIICHI. The other is a detailed close-up of the

          clipboard in the murderer's hand. Daisuke and Shinobu bow to

          Shibata.

                              SHIBATA

                    Kawano-san told me you found

                    something. What is it?

                              SHINOBU

                    We found the identity of the

                    boatman. His name is Sakamoto

                    Seiichi. He is the son of Sakamoto

                    Akihiro, the current leader of the

                    Sakamoto yakuza clan. We were also

                    able to get a detailed closeup of

                    the form that both the murderer of

                    Sakamoto signed. We cannot make out

                    the signature so we were hoping you

                    would be able to.

          Shibata walks over to the computer and looks. Shinobu moves

          towards Ryoichi.

                              SHIBATA

                    I cannot make out this signature.

                              DAISUKE

                    We could.

          Daisuke and Shinobu pull out their guns and aim them at

          Shibata.

                              DAISUKE

                    We know it was you who signed out

                    those weapons and murdered

                    Hasegawa. We have proof to arrest

                    you.

          Yuuto and Nobu enter.

                              YUUTO

                    We found the other forms.

                              SHIBATA

                    You went snooping in my office.

                              YUUTO

                    If Ogawa couldn't find anything on

                    the footage, we needed more proof

                    and we found everything we need to

                    prove that you made illegal trades

                    with Sakamoto and that you killed

                    Hasegawa.

                              NOBU

                    Explain yourself, Admiral. Why did

                    you do it?

          Shibata pulls out his gun, turns and shoots Nobu in the

          chest.

                              RYOICHI

                    Nobu!

          Nobu starts to fall but is caught by Ryoichi. Ryoichi slowly

          lays him down. Shibata goes to shoot Yuuto but his gun is

          shot out of his hand by Shinobu.

                              RYOICHI

                    Yuuto, call for an ambulance!

                              YUUTO

                    Alright.

          Yuuto pulls out his phone and walks over to the corner of

          the room.

                              SHINOBU

                    You are trapped, Shibata. Tell us

                    everything.

                              SHIBATA

                    Shizuka was my mistress. When she

                    joined the Sakamoto yakuza, she

                    asked me to supply her district

                    with weapons and I agreed if she

                    helped recruitment. It was good

                    money.

                              DAISUKE

                    Why did you kill Hasegawa?

                              SHIBATA

                    She knew too much. She saw the

                    exchange and I couldn't have her

                    getting involved.

                              DAISUKE

                    You killed a good officer because

                    of your greedy ways?

                              SHIBATA

                    It was business. The money went to

                    the navy, not to me.

                              RYOICHI

                    That is no reason to do business

                    with the yakuza and put innocent

                    people in danger.

                              SHIBATA

                    You are still young and don't know

                    life.

                              RYOICHI

                    You heartless b*****d!

                              DAISUKE

                    Kawano!

          Ryoichi goes back to help Nobu.

                              DAISUKE

                    Admiral Shibata Saitoshi, you are

                    under arrest for illegal artillery

                    distribution and manslaughter.

                    Please place your hands on your

                    head.

          Shibata does as he's told and Daisuke goes over to cuff him.

          Once he is cuffed, Shinobu and Daisuke walk him out of the

          room. Yuuto assists Ryoichi with helping Nobu.

                              RYOICHI

                    Nobu, we've called for an

                    ambulance, you are going to be

                    alright.

                              NOBU

                    Ryoichi...

          Nobu reaches for the wallet in his pocket and hands it to

          Ryoichi.

                              RYOICHI

                    Why are you giving me this?

                              NOBU

                    Please, go to my girlfriend and

                    tell her I love her and Sayuri, my

                    No, you are not going to die, Nobu.

                              NOBU

                    It can't be helped, Ryoichi.

          Ryoichi eyes fill with tears.

                              RYOICHI

                    No! We're going to get you to the

                    hospital.

                              NOBU

                    Ryoichi, please. I'm not going to

                    survive.

                              RYOICHI

                    Nobu, don't die!

                              NOBU

                    It was good to see you...after

                    all...these years...

          Nobu dies. Ryoichi holds Nobu's hand tight. Yuuto reaches

          over to close Nobu's eyes.

                              YUUTO

                    Ryoichi.

                              RYOICHI

                    I can't leave him!

          Yuuto stands and walks toward the door when two paramedics

          with a stretcher come through. Ryoichi lets go of Nobu's

          hand and takes his wallet. One of the paramedics check

          Nobu's vitals and shakes his head. The paramedics lift

          Nobu's body onto the stretcher and wheel it out. Ryoichi

          remains on the ground. Yuuto goes over to help him up and

          out of the room.

          EXT. NOBU'S APARTMENT. SUNSET.

          Ryoichi and Yuuto are standing outside. Ryoichi has one of

          Nobu's uniforms folded neatly, the decorations placed on

          top.

                              YUUTO

                    You can do this Ryoichi.

          Ryoichi nods. He knocks on the door and waits. The door

          opens to reveal Nobu's girlfriend, HARADA CHIYOKO.

                              CHIYOKO

                    Hello, may I help you?

                              RYOICHI

                    I am Kawano Ryoichi and this is

                    Takanori Yuuto. We were government

                    agents working with Matsanori Nobu,

                    your boyfriend.

                              CHIYOKO

                    Yes.

                              RYOICHI

                    We are here to tell you that he was

                    killed this afternoon from friendly

                    fire.

          Chiyoko puts her hand on her heart. Ryoichi hands her the

          uniform. She is shaking as she takes it. She kneels down,

          holding the uniform, and weeps. Ryoichi lays Nobu's wallet

          down beside her and bows.

                              RYOICHI

                    I am sorry for your loss.

          Ryoichi walks away. Yuuto stares at Chiyoko before he

          follows Ryoichi away. HARADA SAYURI walks up to her mother

          at the door.

                              SAYURI

                    Mama, why you crying?

          Chiyoko turns to Sayuri and holds her close.

          INT. HOSPITAL. NIGHT.

          Ryoichi is sitting next to the window looking out. Ken'ichi

          is laying fast asleep next to Yumiko who is reading Momotaro

          The Peach Boy out loud to him.

                              YUMIKO

                    Momotaro and his three helpers

                    carried all this in their boat back

                    to the land. Then they made a cart

                    and put all the treasure in the

                    cart and pulled it back to

                    Momotaro's house. How happy the old

                    man and woman were when they saw

                    their son return safely from Ogre

                    Island! They were very rich now

                    with all the treasure that Momotaro

                    had brought, and they all lived

                    together very, very, happily.

          She notices him sleeping and strokes his hair. She looks

          over to Ryoichi.

                              YUMIKO

                    Ryoichi?

          Ryoichi looks over at her.

                              RYOICHI

                    Yeah?

                              YUMIKO

                    Are you alright?

          Ryoichi contemplates.

                              RYOICHI

                    I've felt and seen too much sadness

                    today. I had a good friend of mine

                    die in my arms and then I had to

                    tell his girlfriend what happened.

                    They had a three year old daughter

                    that will never know her father.

          Yumiko lays the book on the night stand.

                              RYOICHI

                    Plus that fact that I almost lost

                    you and Ken'ichi last night.

                              YUMIKO

                    But you didn't.

                              RYOICHI

                    If I did, I wouldn't have had

                    anything to hold onto. I would been

                    lost. Before I met you, all I had

                    was Ken'ichi. I realized how much I

                    need him in my life. I realized how

                    much I need you in my life.

          Yumiko looks up at him. Ryoichi walks over to the side of

          the bed and sits.

                              RYOICHI

                    I don't want a life without the two

                    of you. I'm not going to hide my

                    life from you anymore. You are my

                    life and I will surrender myself to

                    you.

          Yumiko smiles and strokes his cheek.

                              YUMIKO

                    Never let us go, Ryoichi.

          Ryoichi smiles and holds her hand.

                              RYOICHI

                    I won't. Never.

          EXT. BRIDGE. NIGHT.

          Kiyomi is looking out to the river, Daisuke is holding her

          from behind.

                              KIYOMI

                    It's beautiful tonight.

                              DAISUKE

                    It is.

          Daisuke turns Kiyomi to face him.

                              DAISUKE

                    Like you.

                              KIYOMI

                    Daisuke, you flatter me too much.

                    We're too old for flattering

                              DAISUKE

                    We're never too old for flattering.

          Kiyomi laughs.

                              DAISUKE

                    I want to ask you something.

                              KIYOMI

                    And what is that?

          Daisuke pulls out a ring box from his pocket and opens it to

          reveal a ring with a diamond surrounded by rubies. Kiyomi's

          eyes widen.

                              KIYOMI

                    Daisuke, is that...?

                              DAISUKE

                    I knew how much you liked rubies

                    since you were born in July so I

                    decided to get an engagement ring

                    that had them in it.

                              KIYOMI

                    It's a...

          Daisuke kneels and holds up the ring to her.

                              DAISUKE

                    Ishikawa Kiyomi, will you marry me?

          Kiyomi is speechless.
