An Old Prose

An Old Prose

A Poem by Devyani

The world's a stage
And we're putting up the best show we can
Going back and forth
Dancing around the eminent truth

Quoting through life
Words of wisdom galore
The chances of happiness
And some of them let go

Neither the winners nor the ones to lose
Reality is a funny game
Everything is coveted
Yet everything is so few

Cherishable moments are one aplenty
But the truth still collects dust
For courage isn't a dime a dozen
And a virtue less found is honesty

Mask the best of the worst
A masquerade of spoiled emotions
No one knows anonymity as much
As the ones who are known a lot

Bury the hatchets or bury the spade
To kill the fire is such a shame
Wonderful wonders and then some unknowns
To have and to behold is such an old prose.

Author's Note

Devyani
Basically about how everyone dances around the truth and the fact that straightforwardness has become a thing of the past (if it ever did exist to begin with) Hence, the title.

Wow! every stanza is a facet of reality we willingly ignore... the entire poem is worth every thought spent, still my fav line is -
"Mask the best of the worst
A masquerade of spoiled emotions
No one knows anonymity as much
As the ones who are known a lot"...

Yep, you are not wrong there. But poets can tell things as they are. Not that anyone pays much attention to poets, save other poets! Well written.

That was very Shakespearean, specially the way you started it. Loved the thoughtfulness in it. You have grown as a poet now, can see that in your work! :)

Brilliant poem! I loved the first line, it reminds me of Shakespeare's saying-"The world is a stage and we are all actors"(ok, that's at least what I think it is). Nice interpretation and good choice of words. Keep writing!

I totally love this piece. Your choice of words is priceless. This piece is packed with meaning. Atleast you don't go around eminent truth ;)
'Cherishable moments are
one aplenty
But the truth still collects
dust
For courage isn't a dime a
dozen
And a virtue less found is
honesty'
Awesome lines. I'd as well quote the whole piece.
