When the World Isn't Watching

“When the world isn’t watching”

 

I see it now,

It’s here.

Exactly how it is normally.

My eyes are opened to the world.

Everything is in place.

It’s assuring to know how orderly

 everything is around me.

But if I close my eyes

Who can know

If things are how they should be.

 

If for even a second,

I look away

while doing so

The order might sway.

And a moment later,

Its back in place.

As if nothing ever happened.

 

Who knows what goes on

When attention is diverted?

Do things change for just as long

As the world isn’t watching?

It stays the same we assume

But how can we tell what the universe knows

When eyes are closed?

Thank you :) My inspiration was the feeling I used to get when I was very little and felt vulnerable with my eyes closed because I have always liked to see everything that is going on around me.
