Eat S**t and Die

Written by: T. L. O’Neal

I saw a bumper sticker today

That said, “Eat S**t and Die”

On a truck carrying cow manure

As the s**t came flying by

S**t and straw was flying towards me

Hitting the windshield and making a stench

I rolled up the windows to avoid the smell

It was too late, and I started to wrench

As the truck passed on

I watched it with a pissed off eye

I was glad he was gone

As I let out a sigh

I wondered who he meant

Was it government, local or state

Or did he mean the world in general

Maybe it was his loving mate

Could have been all the politicians

Who s**t on everyone for half a chance

Suck up to you for a damn vote

Then won’t give you a second glance

Could have been the media

Those suckers of life

Capitalize on misery

And love to cause strife

Maybe he meant the big time farmers

Who run the little ones out

Makes them all go broke

And live on damn handouts

Whoever he meant

I’m not really sure

It was hard to stand it

or the smell to endure

After all this pondering

I know one thing that’s true

That old farmer

Can eat s**t and die too

Hee-hee!

That last stanza is funny. This made me chuckle. It reminded me of Back to the Future 2 when Biff crashes into the cow manure truck.

I like the simplicity, with deeper political overtones.

If this was just for fun than leave it as is, because i think it has it's desired humorous effect.

Ha! One of the good things to have come from the 'wipeout' has been some new oldies that have appeared. This is a particular amusing one as I often drive to work around a lane used by farmers. Once crashed into a cow but it did say 'sorry' - well it said 'moo' in a sorry sounding way.

Politics are as relevant today as the first posting time, probably more so for you guys at the moment!

despite a couple of places where the rhythm stutters the energy of the piece carried me through without hardly a single bump in the road. i love the sentiment of the piece and i think it is one that many people can identify with and stand behind.

i like it. and living around many farms, i understand how bad the smell can be, and how cranky the farmers can get.

I loved this but I have the same sentiments about the media and the gov subsidized farmers. Too bad you got stuck that way...I've been there and know what that smells like.
The poem has good meter and rhyme but the odd number stanzas don't have a good flow. The words are great but the syllables could use trimming down or adding to in places.
Funny how we both seem to have s**t on our minds when we write..hehe

You have a unique sense of humor that's uncomplicated and fun to relate to. I really enjoyed ths poem as it flowed well and actually got me thinking too.

I'm definitely going to check out the rest of your work.

Thanks for brightening my day. :-)

*laughing*

This has a fantastic rhythm and the rhyme is great (the rhyme adds greatly to the humor here). I must admit I did not expect anything too serious to come out of this from the title, so the political references were a surprise. Nicely addressed, though.

I love love love that last stanza! Thanks much for the laugh!

I agree with Moonlight...eating it and living has got to be more unpleasant than dying right afterwards. But, either way, I really enjoyed this.

I think Primus should cover this. Too funny!

I see you stuck with the title. Very in depth politically, as well as for the common folk. As I said before I really liked the way you illustrated the different aspects of agencies to the farmers and it's all because of being behind a truck full of s**t! lol Nice
