Your Fragrance

Your Fragrance

A Poem by VertoAtrum
"

Whenever I miss her, I seem to almost catch her smell, her perfume, the scent I fell asleep to and loved dearly.

"

Sometimes when I am daydreaming,

I catch a subtle scent,

In the air, it tip-toes by,

Side to side to catch it, my head is bent

I cease my hallucinogenic stupor,

I can smell it better now,

Like something from my dreams,

It seems foreign, I sigh and crease my brow

Why is this familiar? It fills me up,

It smells of strong decaying flowers,

I used to fall asleep to it, overpowering me,

It felt like home after all those forgone hours

My breath catches in my chest,

I have realized what this is, how could I not,

A salty streak runs down my cheek,

My stomach aches, my emotions in a knot

I remember you, like a flickering bulb,

Not always with me, here, yet silent,

The smell is a ghost, and begins to leave,

I chase after nothing, trying to find it with defiance

I sink to the floor, once more alone,

My chest shakes with defeat,

But then, as I lay down to my sorrow,

It comes again, and you comfort me to sleep
