Golden Arches

Golden Arches

A Story by Clifford

Marlene and Betsy sat together at a table at McDonalds. They were on a "field trip" of sorts. Once in a while, the folks from Shady Pines Retirement Home would spend a day going around town. After touring the museum, they stopped for lunch. The two women watched the TV as the local news team covered current events. Donald Trump's (not so) picturesque face came up.
"You hear the nonsense this dumbass says?" Betsy mumbled. "I can't wait until he's gone so we can get the next guy in."
"Who gives a s**t. We probably won't even make it that long."

I have the feeling I'm not catching at least half of the nuances you've built into this. But even so, I love the way you're giving us a fresh way to consider current events in this country. It doesn't feel like this line is meant to be emphasized, but this is what stood out to me: "so we can get the next guy in" -- to me, this is at the crux of our presidential politics, more & more, just a seesaw that takes the whole country along for the next ride. Anyhow I'm always trying to put this festering sore into proper perspective so I can get on with my life! *wink! wink!* (((HUGS)))

Clever title: Golden Arches. Is Maurice a woman's name? This is short, but perfectly describes what should concern those looking at the end of their days - does the Great Orange One reeeaallly matter? Nope, not so much. Would that those of us who have a reasonable expectation of living for a while longer didn't have to worry, as well.
