Mine Most Beautiful

Mine Most Beautiful

A Poem by Clyde Penman
"

Alas! Anther poem for the birthday of my loved one!

"

My most beautiful love,

Hath I words to tell thee that are untrue?

Nay.

For thee all words issued from my lips are honest.

In love I did fall at first meeting,

Though I felt that must be untrue,

For love takes time.

But I held thee in my arms and sighed,

And found I was more correct than ever I’d been,

For love has become my eternal friend.

Perhaps there has always been a string attaching thee to me,

Perhaps we have never been parted

But in body and mind.

Thee has my heart!…

That which I have always thought a heavy burden,

But doth thee carry it well?

Yea.

Thee lifts me up into what I know not,

But it be most heavenly.

I lay in your arms,

At last! I am warm and safe.
