His Book Pt.2

His Book Pt.2

A Poem by Cyprian Van Dyke

Her highlighter makes his words glow in the dark.

She holds her teddy bear & reads another chapter.

He shows her his planet, & sky, with its half sun -

Half moon & half stars of a jewels size.

She’ll only let go of her teddy bear to hug him

& this, by him, does not go unnoticed.

He knows how to speak, brake & to mend words

That make everything possible.

That she’s in bed on earth reading his book is all

That’s unfathomable, but also inescapably true.

For in time, she sees what appears to be credits

Elevating up the night sky; a list of names of the

Aliens she met, including that one by her side.

She knows, she has to go back.

She covers her lips with her hand & starts to cry.

His book was over & she didn’t understand why.

To follow, a sequel, not of his, but hers,

It picks up from where this left off.

This time he’ll come to her world, Earth.
