Only a Dream

Only a Dream

A Poem by Leona Cieri
"

An unnamed girl sits by a window reflecting on her past.

"
Dew falls as tears glisten, stark against speckled glass.
The sigh of bittersweet rain upon translucent panes and vacant orbs of ash mauve,
The heave of enervated hearts and broken dreams.
Staring beyond the crystalline fringes to reveries of procured ambitions
and linking shards that fill the rifts of one's being.
Looking for the enigma with sable locks and virescent irises.
Waiting for him,
The boy that promised they'll be together forever,
The man that never came.
The entity that never existed.

She believed she would come by him,
Stumble across him against the limitations and practicalities of this world,
That destined hearts, bound souls, would find one another despite the odds,
despite the truth.
For he was very much real in the illusions that are dreams,
The mirages of the mind.

The quirk of a smile, the whisper of shifting hair and beating lash,
The tilt of the brow and the cadence of mellifluous timbres.
Tangible idiosyncrasies that billowed from extending hands,
Reachable but never attainable.
Fading away with each day unremembered,
Struggling to recall the contours of the jaw, the wink of the eyes.

Only now, it's all but an evanescent dream of the past,
A fool's wish though she knew in reality it was just that-

A dream.

Sometmes the dream is better than the reality...suppose he came and did not live up to her hopes...?

Thanks for reviewing!
Riri!

This is so beautiful, beyond words!
I'm so jealous of you sometimes, missy!

The poem had such a delicate flow, and it wasn't choppy like some other poems I've read before.
Gosh, I'm actually so envious of this awesome poem.

Anyways, fab job as usual! ^^
I would rate it 110, but it said I could only do 100 >_

first line .."tears glisten"

overall this really jumps off the page with its myriad of images...they are sharp...and this dream cuts the heart when it is just that..a dream.

the lovers we fantasize in our dreams are often so much more true and passionate than those we encounter in real life.

but then, those in real life are palpable...and they either love us or break our hearts.

I really love the way you use your words! So deep and imaginative! The picture that was painted in my head while reading this was so breathtaking, I wish it was a real picture. Absolutely marvelous.

so, since I suck at languages, is it "always a dream" or "always dream"? though I can't imagine they're mutually exclusive...hell they're practically symbiotic and as ironic as a subatomic particle waiting for the 11:30 train.
this happens every time I see a blue shirt with skulls or a random tire with an aum bandana tied to it sitting on a three legged chair. I better get to the review part before I get branded a psycho, or worse yet, interesting.
I say f**k it, always dream..I like your quirky word choices. it got a little bit personal towards the end and almost made me something along the lines of uncomfortable(I'm just joking; it was personal though, and I like that) but I'm in a strange mood I don't really understand myself right now...too much clarity; it's clouding my vision.
I see layers, but who am I to describe such things, so I'll just say great job and do the back flip I always do vicariously while watching jackie chan

Such strong and beautiful wording in this poem that creates that aura of reality bound with such sadness in the knowledge that it's a dream. How often have we all been there and it feels so real. Your poem did this for me.
The imagery is wonderful and the sadness is elegant and [profound.
So pleased I read this. Gorgeous writing
