Don't Slip

Don't Slip

A Poem by D Connolly
"

The office is a dangerous place

"

It's not a thing I'm proud of, to want to see you fall

But your actions here are really gross, and I don't care for you at all

Look how proud you stand there, whistling like a bird

But I hear a very different tune; A squawk is what I heard

"Look at me! Look at me!", desperation in your eyes

You need everyone to love you, but I see through your disguise

Your veiled contempt for rivalries isn't missed by me

I saw the passing look of fear, you cannot hide your greed

Taking parts of another's work and claiming as your own

You sit on piles of betrayal and lies, making it a throne

Like the crow that rides the eagle's wings, I know you think you're slick

You're stepping on heads to break your fall, its just a parlor trick

I always try to see the best in the people that I meet

I'm not boastful of another's flaws, of those, I am discreet

But when I hear your bumptious claims that put down all the others

I can't help but want to protect my sisters and my brothers

I watch you dancing close to the edge of office politics

And while I won't push you over the ledge...

I'd love to see you slip

There is a new woman here and she is HORRIBLE! She won't last long; everyone knows what she's doing.

Your "trick" of writing in couplets makes this more forceful than a lengthy diatribe. Combined with some good caustic wit, you have painted a picture that many of us have experience in our working life, but have never expressed it such a humorous way.
Your last triplet stanza was delightful. Sometimes, Dana, those spells can work.
Keep your fingers crossed.

There's always one, isn't there? Worked in an office for eight years and out of the 250 people there, about forty percent actually worked and the rest were made up of various excuses and gossips, with the few claiming superiority over others with nothing but delusion and ego to show. I'm sure your bosses know more than she thinks. That's the trouble with offices, some people are great at interviews, yet terrible at the actual work. Hope you don't need to put up with her much longer.

Thank-you very much :)
There are quite a few people who are a cause of worry and trouble to their colleagues.
Hope you manage to get rid of her soon.

Thank-you Shabeeh :)
You've covered quite a few of human nature's most unpleasant traits, indeed, many folk, especially when they gain ' a little ' authority, it goes straight to their head, often at the expense and grievance of those around and the sad thing about it is that the perpetrator is totally oblivious!

A superbly penned, people poem, enjoyed this one, hope your situation resolves itself soon?

I'm not too worried about it, everyone knows what she's done. Management will take care of her.
some can only like themselves better by making others look bad...

claiming the good work of another as theirs...much like plagiarists who steal writing, pass it off as their own...this woman like many of the others like her...i am sure she does not sleep peacefully at night...at least if she has any kind of soul and conscience...

Thank-you Jacob :) I hate plagiarism
When I worked I used to run into someone like this. It seems no matter what kind of a job it is, one like this wants to be above all of the others. Valentine You laid this out great.

Dani, what's going down. Poetry on the edge here. It's not Mr's Trump, is it.

Don't slip, well, nit unless I'm there to witness your crashing fall. Liked this, don't like the sound of her. Psst, give her a shove..
