Trying to find the real me.

Trying to find the real me.

A Poem by Danzig16
"

Addict tendencies but ultimately a new way of looking at things in a different perspective.

"
The smell of the sea reminds me of the time spent trying to find the real me
Although I felt like I was drowning
The waves were crashing against the rocks so hard
My mind was lost in a trance deep in rewind
At this current time the sun had set
And the tides had settled down
It was me and the moon: NO ONE ELSE AROUND
I spoke for a moment as the salt water filled the air
I laid back to stare at the stars to get sand in my hair
All of that I could bare
But seeing the stars light up made my eyes tear
Your voice was all I could hear
Over and over again in my head
"Why am I here anyways."
"Why is everyone else dead."
Life has this crazy web
To teach us where NOT to go
Don't give up anything that inspires your soul!

This is so introspective, I really feel and live the words. Having recently lost my father to complications from addiction, the struggle he and my family faced wasn't only versus the substance abuse but it was internal for all of us. Some of us encouraging due to pity or whatever reasons, some of us relying on hate to fuel the divide. Great write it got me in all sorts of emotions here.

In your poem, it feels like we have a narrator telling her story and the other character is the setting. It’s the way I view my own life – the place where I live plays a big part in who & how I am. I like it when a writer makes the surroundings come alive. We never know how much more of life is “out there” beyond the predictable circle of life we are used to seeing & interacting with. Your ocean scene suggests a more expansive view of life, of what’s to come, compared to the limiting existence of addiction. I love it when a writer shares a multi-faceted story (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
