Heartless Drone

Heartless Drone

A Story by Dennis Shanaberg
"

Meh... A thing I wrote

"
When I met you,

I had so much to give

And so I did.

I gave it all to you.

And what did you do?

You took it

And you pushed me down

Till I was just a little stain

'Neath your boot on the ground,

Crushed and Broken,

With all of me still spoken

For.

I want those bits back

But instead there's a hole

In my soul

And the rest's turned black.

Rotten,

Spoiled, ruined,

Then forgotten.

Now, I've got nothing left

To give again.

Not after I've faced death,

And this heart's been bled

Dry.

Now, I live in sighs,

Not that syncopated beating

In my chest all night.

I've tried to find

Something to match that high.

But the reasons gone,

And I need a light.

It's whatever.

Maybe I'll walk alone

To my heartless drone.

Who needs new music when

The the best song's already known.
