This Song is Made of Sound Waves

This Song is Made of Sound Waves

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg
"

A song for those who think art is science

"

You lay it down in grids and lines.
Figuring it all out,
You think it is essential to survive.
What do you think makes the stars glow?
Where do you think all our dreams go?
I don’t know.
We don’t know.
Tell me.  Just say.  How do you know?

What are you going to do
When finally you find you are through?
When all of the mysteries are gone?
When all the sound waves are measured out of the song?
Are we just numbers?
Are we just science broken down?
When you find everything out,
I really don’t want to be around.

When I was younger, I believed
When I thought it all out
I thought that the world revolved around me.
But some things I don’t want to know.
There’s some things we just don’t need to know.

What are you going to do
When finally you find you are through?
When all of the mysteries are gone?
When all the sound waves are measured out of the song?
Are we just numbers?
Are we just science broken down?
When you find everything out,
I really don’t want to be around.

This song is a problem
For you to work out.
What spark fired in my brain
To make these words come out.
Each note was selected
So mathematically.
Any passion or feelings
Are to primitive to see.
This song is a problem
For you to work out.
What spark fired in my brain
To make these words come out.
Each note was selected
So mathematically.
Any passion or feelings
Are too primitive to see.

What are you going to do
When finally you find you are through?
When all of the mysteries are gone?
When all the sound waves are measured out of the song?
Are we just numbers?
Are we just science broken down?
When you find everything out,
I really don’t want to be around.

You’re so well read.
You’ve said what you’ve said.
There’s so much in that head
Of yours.
But still you don’t realize
Still you don’t see
That you’re only truly enlightened
When you find that you know nothing.

I really enjoyed this poem...specially the last line of 3rd stanza "we just don't need to know"
It's amazingly true....
Great read😊

A perfect ending.

"You're so well read.
You've said what you've said.
There's so much in that head
Of yours.
But still you don't realize
Still you don't see
That you're only truly enlightened
When you find that you know nothing."

Good Job!
