Beaches

Beaches

A Poem by R. T. Hyder

The summer heat has a way of reminding me
of dirty sand and cold beer
and the car windows rolled down
as the dampening 90-degree wind swirls around us
and the voices around me are but a hum
in the midst of this irresistible day.

Or how despite the end of one thing
there’s the formation of another sphere in my life
and seeing all the new faces makes me giddy
as I can’t help but want more
and there is nothing half so satisfying as knowing
that things are in motion everywhere I look.

But while these things are happening
my happinesses are intertwined with the sadnesses
in the dark recesses of a world beyond my grasp
and despite all of this I decide that
it’s simply better to enjoy this moment
because who knows when the same feeling will come again?
