Discover Life's Treasures

Discover Life's Treasures

A Poem by Diane Lockard
"

Discover your life's treasures -they are all around you...

"

Treasures are…

Smoky campfires,

Roasting marshmallows,

Coffee brewing in an old enamel pot.

Discover these memories, if you are

“Put on the Spot.”

Wise for her years, my seven-year old says,

“It is a beautiful day.”

Yes, carefree, playing with her pets and friends.

Sultry summer days, the sweet, sour taste of lemonade,

Clinking of ice in a glass.

Tickling your toes in the fresh mown grass.

Friends and family gathering,

Talking, laughing, eating…

Mama Mia, Luigi, aliases for spaghetti dinner.

Walking on the beaches of Oregon, sky-high in Colorado;

“Where is the motor home?”

Pontoons on Otter Lake, nature’s music…

Time is fleeing, “Do not despair;”

Your treasure chest has room to spare…

Out of the mist and fog comes the sound of "Ollie Ollie In come free". as we run to tag the tree or kick the can.Fleet of foot and breathless. Our bodies respond to every thought like a well oiled machine. Youth is not wasted on the young. it is It is meant to be burned up in a frenzy that culminates in the crescendo of life and love we call our twenties.

Treasures are such lil things
we hold within
...moments shared
and breathless whispers
and ...
all the soft silly smiles
our lips ever form -
just because.

They make your life all it can be ...for some.
What a gem this is--a true treasure. You know what matters, what is most precious. This made my heart soar.

It always makes me feel good to know people enjoy my "down to earth" poems...
The simple pleasures! Gives me a lovely sense of setting and company. Again, I enjoy the simplicity of your work. It is what it is!
