We are the people

We are the people

A Poem by Daisygirl
"

Woe

"

We are the men of stolen moments

Of time lost long ago

Ending prospects to be

We are the women of forgotten hopes

Of dreams never to be lived

Ending wishes unsaid

We are the children of broken oaths

Of promises taken back

Ending bonds of love

We are the people of a failing world

Of stories burned before they’re told

Ending before we begin

Thank you, it was fun to write that way.
I like the way the letters of the acrostic are repeated in this. It is woeful that these people were lost...

Thanks, I was hoping someone would notice that.
I was drawn to this by the title. One of my favourite songs shares this title.
So you could say I had a bit of an expectation when I arrived at this one. I wasnt disappointed.
I liked the incorporation of the title into the poem (and vice versa). Many lives and relationships end - metaphorically and physically before reaching their potential, and relationships fall by the wayside too. This is an everyman poem - universally true and skill-fully written.
