Still Living With You

Still Living With You

A Poem by Dreamy
"

Feelings left over from an abusive marriage.

"

And so, I write this to you:

When will I stop looking for you, every time I leave my house,

Thoughts of pain inflicted, by you, my spouse.

When will I stop worrying, every time I see a car,

that looks just like yours, reminds me you are never very far.

Will I ever stop checking, all the locks on the door,

and before going to bed, checking them once more.

When will I stop jumping, everytime the phone rings,

wondering what hurtful words, your phone call may bring.

When will I be able to let go, of the memory of you,

along with the bruises, came the emotional pain too.

When will I stop being scared, at every noise I hear,

sitting straight up in bed, one hand catching my tear.

When will I feel safe, and stop looking over my shoulder,

The scars never go away, but they continue to grow older.

When will someone listen, to all of us that cry,

before its too late,  another woman must die?

Please leave me alone, I want to live,

after all you've done to me, that's the least you could give.

the things i hear will be a poem I write soon this reminds me of the feelings the emotions I hear expressed to me and others when the women and children run with our help..,to "far away and never again places".. .far from the men who hurt and kill.. I want so much my legacy to be the salvation of lives of battered women and children..so to your wting .. it smacks of real feelings and real hurt.. the way we feel when we are betrayed and lost.. ty for sharing and I pray it heals more.. Great poem and that man was a coward. I would never hurt my wife. To bad you dont live by me,I would make sure you were never afraid of that basterd again.

This hurts more than words can say.. been there.. still check the locks as I have had my home broken into at least 6 times.. never stolen property.. just paperwork and sentimental things..like pictures.. spousal abuse can be hard to prove and in my case ... my daughter just turned 18.. I don't have to deal with him anymore... yeah.. let the real healing begin!!! He is now a dishwasher with a hateful drinking woman... sad he never turned his life around and sought help.. My daughter is distancing herself from him and seeking counsel still.. I have already done this many times but he always has an alibi in his family... and I never have a witness or proof.. he even tried to run me over twice.. his visitations could not be stopped for years therefore they could not fingerprint as he had legal access at other points.. young girls out there.. if they hurt you bad physically or mentally ... charge them early and get away!!!

Very creatively and emotionally written. I could relate to the narrator on so many levels. This was a lovely piece.
