Immortal

Immortal

A Poem by William
"

I believe there's a unique kind of beauty in despair, in knowing how little you mean to this world. We only need to accept it to see how magnificent it is.

"

Parents, children, friends and lovers

An acquaintance, an old pal

Wait for them to be abandoned,

Else they’ll leave you far behind

Taken somewhere far away,

Far beyond your yearning reach

They will linger in your head,

Suck your strength out like a leech

Long abandoned and forgotten,

They will come to you one day

As a memory of a memory,

Recollection of inflicted pain

None will stay and all will pass,

Roles will stay and we will pass

Who’s a friend and who’s a lover?

Who’s your child when you die?

Hold her as you used to long ago,

As you’ll hold one else and many more

Wonder what her smile means

Even though you've seen it all before

Show the way you love them all

Quote your confession, nevermore

One who loves you now and till forever

One you loved way back before

Share the stories of your past,

Share your dreams and aspirations

Hold him up when times are hard,

Cheer on him on challenging occasions

Tear through life, stand side by side

And once you’re done for the time being,

Deep in your heart he will reside

While all of them will keep on living

Roles will stay, but we will vanish,

Lost to time and lost to life

With the Time our names will perish

As our memories’ll fade away

As will all the thing we’d cherish

On a grim and desperate day

It doesn’t matter if you stay

And try to hold all that is precious

Like everyone else, you’ll pass away

And your soul will lose its essence

For those departing every day

No one would cry if only they'd have learnt the lessons

A child was born this very second,

The second was abandoned by their blood

The third has died on surgeon’s table

While dirt hits last one’s first and final cradle

We kill and die, we spawn and live

We love, we hate, we feel forgotten

We think the ways we are are so unique

But all the ways we walk were long past trodden

We’re all the same, we’re not immortal

And I am sorry if you’ve just heard these news

Some call me heartless and immoral

But this life’s frailty is my greatest muse
