Gasoline man

Gasoline man

A Poem by fatumi
"

collaboration with Carmen

"

They say that the smell is what started it

That the fumes of it’s odor excited him

He was a nice guy they say but looking at him now

oh man…  what is that?

People run, and scream they try to turn the other way

“He’s crazy! He’s crazy!”

Never did I see him less than six feet away

My grandma always told me

“Don’t try to speak to him, he’s not right in the head!”

The glare in his eyes is a little bit scary

but that’s because all the fumes have made him wary

Gasoline they say

That’s how it started

all he had to do was simply spot it

He’d go around people’s cars with a hose on his hip

first he smelled it

then he took a sip

one and two and three

Did he really drink it?

Don’t know if it’s true but this one time he was doing

unspeakable things while he was on the roof

but we keep meeting, we keep crossing paths I’m starting to think that he’s really not that bad

Yes, he kinda smells

Yes, he’s pretty dirty

Yes he has a pretty nasty patch in his hair

But I think that he’s just a little lonely

I really like how this showed what a society believes of a man who does... unorthodox things and may be not normal by our standards and then it turns around at the end with "But I think that he’s just a little lonely"--people usually aren't different without a reason.

I can see that your theme expresses the fact that a kind-hearted, inquisitive person doesn't care if someones crazy. They will always see the good in them, or right through them...in this case, his loneliness. I like how you used a little bit of end rhyme, that worked well in flow. Good use of imagery. This poem shouldn't stop!
