Songsters have a time-honoured tradition of taking cliches and extrapolating and exploring them. It's prevalent in modern music (rock, pop, rap) and I agree broadens the mind if the lyrics are listened to 'properly'. I'm amazed at how many of my friends sing lyrics they 'think' they hear which are usually not what they hear.
