Requiem of Another Body

Requiem of Another Body

A Poem by HighBrowCulture
"

"Love lies."

"

1.

This want is callous

As a steel drum

Or a sea breeze in a jar

No, no

It’s more like the memory of your first heartache

A much deadlier obsession

I’m the street peddler

Who ears needles and s***s intestine

All so I can feel the surgeon

Zipper up the bruising on this cage wire soul

Oh, what cold storage

Consuming the Romanian perfume

Of another crushed shadow-

2.

I should have known better

Then to slice open the bowel of my heart

And spill its swamp water on the face of your blank playing card

Because no matter the candlelight in your eyes

And those pupils dipped in Coptic ink

Or the valley of your cheek

And the sunrise caught in the ocean of your skin

I can’t go on like this

Nailing you to some scarecrow

I built in some distant nightmare.

3.

What can I say?

You were candy in a closed jar

An accordion without a pulse

But I pretended you could play

And you did-

Until I heard the requiem of another body

Somewhere under the snow-

This poem is so good. So many lines stood out. I love your use and flow of the language. I could feel the pain and misery in your words. The ending was very good.
"you were candy in a closed jar." This is a amazing poem. Thank you.
