Woman in Chains

Woman in Chains

A Poem by Himangini Singh
"

This poem is about self-pity. An unemployed widow, struggles to make ends meet. Her conscience is making a mockery out of her life.

"
Your hours are idle
You are wasting your time,
Your life moves on without a reason or rhyme.

You don't qualify
You're just not good
Your willingness is not enough
Or you'd be where you should.

Standing behind thousands
In line with the queue
Your education hasn't taught you
The tricks to mend a shoe.

You've sent many applications,
Scanned through the papers.
They've come back rejected,
They've never been your savers.

You are living on one's charity,
With the promise to repay the loan,
Their kindness has stretched too far
But for more you beg and moan.

When will your luck turn?
When will you see the light?
When will you ever live again
One in your own right?

You go on and on,
To so many you owe.
Your very breath of existence,
Your whole life's show.
