Memory and Fog

Memory and Fog

A Poem by Mark

The truth lies in wait
you rode off with my lie
leaving me alone
with my blind eye heart
made of sand and stone.

I watched that fine a*s walk away
the bottle, the smoke helped
me drift another tomorrow's day.

Pearl smooth calm
no waves to crash into now.
Only the memory of long ago tears
and the damn ringing,
the god damn ringing in my ears.

Give me the towel
I'll wipe my eyes
open my laughing mouth
drink to your health
my memory, my friend, my soul

and it's just too dry when I'm sober.
Is it what I once held dear?
I can't think for this ringing
in my ears.

This god damn ringing.

Your voice singing
memories of wholeness, of light
your smile, your taste, my filled days
and sweat soaked, oblivion nights.

Now I don't even have fear
all there is
is this god damn ringing.
The ringing in my ears.

Thank you Pryde. I think this was inspired by "God Damn Lonely Love" - The Drive By Truckers.
