Butterfly

Butterfly

A Poem by Jade Leilani
"

One of the things that I'm finding in my new discovery of this site is that I'm enjoying the thought of taking old poems such as this one and as I add new ones seeing the progression of my writing.

"
Butterfly in my hand
I can't understand
I want you to stay
But you fly away

As you fly away
There's something I must say

On your fragile wings, my dear
May you carry not a tear
Up in the sky so blue
Carry your memories, oh so true

Butterfly in my hand
Maybe I need to understand
That to be free
I must always be me

So as you fly away today
Let me just say

Throughout your flight
Stay in the light
And in the sunbeams
May you find all your dreams

Butterfly in my hand
Help me to understand
That the person I am today
Is not the person I have to stay

When you fly away today
Remind me, always to say

Through rain or shine
May these dreams I call mine
Be always in view
And to myself, may I always be true

I love this poem. To begin in one form and evolve into another, as you evolve from the person you once were into the person you were meant to be. As you so beautifully said, “That to be
free I must always be me.” Thank you for sharing this poem with us.
