Tender Kisses

Tender Kisses

A Poem by James McFadyen

Tis it Gods fancy to leave men mired
In discrepant sentiments, a love undesired?
Juxtaposed repose which wantonly dismisses
A doting love and her tender kisses

As bitter as sweet as a dew washed rose
They would make all poets write in prose
Lips like feathers they caress my cheeks
Though more so like talons and razor sharp beaks

Delightful perfume escapes your mouth
Of Valencian cherries and spiced Vermouth
A sanguine chalice, parted lips
Filled with venom I am forced to sip

You utter soft whispers like butterfly wings
I am obliged to hear the temptress sing
Such words dissolve to mires so black
A sickly pool, sincerity doth lack

Tis it Gods fancy to leave men mired
In discrepant sentiments which leave me tired?
Alas! I adore thee yet despite such wishes
I will never love your tender kisses.

this is sweet ..
and sour at the same time ..

This is a phenomenal poem, beautiful worded and a pleasure to read. We're complicated things, us women...if we're good for nothing else; at least we inspire such amazing poetry :)

Wow thank you for such kindly expressed words
My God James this is amazing. It is poetry at its best. It is Keats and Wordsworth but in your own style. Utterly fantastic.

Thanks
There's such traditional strength in this poem; you've used phrases that really echo past style: ' As bitter as sweet as a dew washed rose ~ They would make all poets write in prose ~ Lips like feathers they caress my cheeks ~ Though more so like talons and razor sharp beaks '. Sorry the theme is painful for you.. we're not all that bad!

Ah, the duality of woman. One minute she can intoxicate with her kisses, the next she can bite your head off. I love the classical approach in this poem. It was an absolute pleasure to read. Well done, Sir.
