Tanka Poem 2

Tanka Poem 2

A Poem by James McFadyen

Composed in the style of Japanese Tanka. It takes the form of five lines and a syllabic meter of 5-7-5-7-7.

Must I suffer your

Visage? Violet eyelashes,

Rose petalled lips.

My eyes incrust with lichens,

Blind by beauty I shan't hold.

My work takes inspiration from the poetess Ono no Komachi, whose writings tend to flirt with themes concerning sorrow, loss, and unrequited love.

You inject such pathos into your work James and always paint with deep, rich and dark hues.
