Tanka Poem 3

Tanka Poem 3

A Poem by James McFadyen
"

Composed in the style of Japanese Tanka. It takes the form of five lines and a syllabic meter of 5-7-5-7-7.

"

Alas! I unlike

These autumnal leaves,

Passions inflamed,

Your embers glow oh so bright.

My heart grows colder in pain.

This has a deep feeling of pain and loss but I found the stitching undone perhaps in the transition between the protagonists comparison of himself to the autumn leaves and to his love?
