The Pendulum of Society

The Pendulum of Society

A Poem by James Whitefall
"

Watch how the world swings.

"

We trusted you with power,

We gave you the keys to our cells,

And you’ve murdered that trust,

Set out to murder us.

Now you shriek,

And shirk the responsibility.

Your actions, we’ve seen them,

They’ve come back to haunt you.

With every shot fired,

You look like the criminal;

With every shot fired,

You’ll settle the score.

When the smoke clears,

You’ll still be in charge,

Pretending to run our lives,

Pretending to be important.

Just like a pendulum,

It has swung in our favor,

Temporarily we hold the sway.

Opinion will be in your court soon.

Scary times we're living in. This is filled with fear and disappointment. Definitely how a lot of people feel right now. I liked the flow of the piece, it read well. Tackles a topic that many people don't take the time to think about, or purposely avoid all together. Good read, thanks for your words.
