Blue Skies and A Flower

Blue Skies and A Flower

A Poem by Robert Luna
"

This is a tribute to a great writer and wonderful friend. Mrs. Emily Burns. She is such a part of this place and her heart is felt by so many here. i just wanted to give her something back for her incredible friendship.

"

She reminds me that there’s time to change

Quoting Dickenson as she walks out into the rain

I'm out here counting blue skies with dark clouds
Trying to make sense out of life

When you're up between the sky line and city lights

there in warm sunshine
It's a long way down

Her words become instrumental

Traveling in beauty’s jet streams

and hitching a ride

Upon back of shooting stars

Letting the wind sweep you off your feet

Landing naked upon dirty streets

There in a place where metal meets words

Just wishing to travel back in time

Hiding her angel wings and tear stained eyes

Hearing another nations silent cries

She got a beautiful heart..,,unlike mine

Even as ugly as life has been

she still calls me friend

To the bitter end

You give back every day. Word for word. Thought for thought. Just knowing that you are out there somewhere gives me strength on cloudy days. I found your words on a sad day. I asked you to recommend some other words to me on a rainy night. That's as good a basis for friendship as any I've ever known.

Thank you for the tribute. It's a little overwhelming. I see myself one way, while some others see me as something a little different. I'll try and rise to the challenge.

I agree w/ your sentiment in the author's note about Emily. She breathes life into this place.

But you seem to have beautiful heart as well. don't sell yourself short. I spent a lot of my life feeling guilty, but I had to do my best o let it go. It's great to encourage others, but you have to give yourself credit too. it's so key.

And your line involving metal meeting words resonates w/ me..metal is such an internal element..and words can explore those places.

and when we collaberate, in writings and relations as writers..well, it makes it all worthwhile. [=

your ending is honest and rings truth that, even without knowing your experience, I can still relate to.

But the end is part of the beginning..we're exploring that. all of us. [=

namaste, brother.

I came back to this today. Sometimes it is good to remind ourselves how we affect others. Light is meant to be shared. It is what I can do. When I am called, I will do more. I only have to disagree with one thing. Your heart is beautiful to so many. The lines and scars are marks of character and diminish nothing from the worth.

Robert, it has been an amazing journey. I'm coming up on two years in the cafe. And you were one of the first writers here to extend a hand. You've taught me lessons that will never be forgotten. I don't tell you often enough what your friendship has meant to me. My love to you and your family.

Simple and beautiful.
I love the line "where metal meets words". As writers we always search for that place.
