Don't Lose Sight Of What Matters

Don't Lose Sight Of What Matters

A Poem by Jong Schrijver

Sometimes in life things will go wrong
Friends will be lost and others will be found
It's an age old tale with a sorrow sound

It'll start with something quite stupid
But given time it'll grow into something more
Something there truly is no reason for

And when word gets out trouble will follow
Folks will assume stuff even when they don't know
The true way people feel about you will show

People will lie and try to put you down
They'll trash you're life,they'll trash you're friends
They'll tell people stories but the facts they'll bend

But don't lose sight of what matters
Because your real friends know what's true
And I'll always be there because i love you

I love this poem because the message is so true. Oftentimes people get caught up in fights with other people and that'll take up most of their life. Sometimes people need to realize the things you'll remember 20 years later are the good things, and to let some of that other stuff go. I really like the rhyme scheme, too.

An excellent message. Also, you used the wrong form of "you're". I think that you meant "your" as in the possessive. "You're" refers to you are. There's an unnecessary apostrophe in "gets". Still a valiant poem nonetheless.
