The Welcome Circus

The Welcome Circus

A Poem by Karen Redburn

You're welcome here

Are you highfalutin?

Pull up a royal chair

Allergic to Gluten?

There's almond milk

Geek/nerd bring technology

Come sit we can talk

Are you a freak?

Say hello to the nerd,

Ignore the geek, cuz that rhymes

Ignoring geeks that's rude

Would you like tap water

Don't drink the swimming pool

Do you work in a store

Please bring bottled water

If you're a snooty brat,

bring your nose in the air

If your a poet

To be or not to be

What was the question?

Lady with ten cats,

Please bring just one

If you dance in the rain

The cat is not your partner

A heart of gold

How many carrots

Rabbits like carrots

Think I'm insane?

Bring a doctor

Bankers and financiers

Dance with the cat

Need approval

It left the building

The banker might rubber stamp it

Come have a cup of tea

Rabbits are soft and cuddly

Tea, cuddly they don't rhyme

Your tummies empty?

We have almond milk and water

Almond milk tastes good in tea

So does water

But not tap water

It pollutes the pool

Suicidal, runaway bridal

Face is bumpy

Sit by me

Or sit anywhere you want

Not in the empty chair at the back

Someone's already sitting there

Here's some water

But not from the sea

Too many waves

No chlorine though

Hate rats, befriend the cats

(sorry for the rhyme but I restrained and it's time)

Hating rats is mean

Weave mats, no rhyme here

Are you deaf

I can sign

No I can't

But I know this Italian guy

Great with his hands

No matter what you do... welcome!

Sit, talk, know, care

I wouldn't change you

I don't dare... TO RHYME!

Oh, if you try to change people

Come on in

Bring your judgements

Of knowledge to err

Strange is you,

strange is me

The earth is big and blue

Your welcome here, who knew

Say cheese!

A bit of silliest fun. Words have power and using them to welcome and joke is as easy as using them .. read more

There's such a playful air to your words! Tis as if you're not at all sitting but floating space, thinking thoughts, singing them to anyone who cares to listen, to hear. But.. if nobody comes around.. well, never mind.. you'remore than happy doing your own thing.

As to your language, the way you intentionally avoid the norm, the expected, you're a free soul.. to heck with conformity. Everyone's welcome!

Nightie, night!
I get the feeling you are writing like a half-cocked goofball as a means to "show instead of tell" that literally ANYONE is welcome here & all anomalies will not only be tolerated but celebrated! This is a fun & uninhibited piece pumping out originality. In 2 places (lines 1 & 7) you use "your" when it needs to be you're. Nicely entertaining & light-hearted. (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
