Slave

Slave

A Poem by RedHairedWarrior
"

A perspective poem I wrote for fun while riding in the car...

"
String me up in your neighborhood
Hang me above the roadside
Forbid your children from my contact
Make me untouchable
Why should I care?
Why should I care
if you determine my every move?
If you make me your slave?
If you depend on my labor
for your food, laundry, entertainment?
Why should I care if I am continually passed along
from home to home,
lent to your neighbor or sent to a far off town?
taken for granted?
sold as a commodity?
Why should I care if the single thing I want...
simply to fall to the ground and rest...
Is the one thing you will never let me do?

nice allegory---could literally be a slave from the old days, but yes, the electricity idea fits so well, as would other ideas...the muse for one---no one else could touch, she could feel totally used---when we want her she is there, but then, aren't we actually slaves to the muse, ourselves?

The flow to this poem is very good, and I really like the concept--that of "a nonliving entity--that being electricity". It's always interesting to see how these experiemtnal pieces go.

Thank you. I like writing these kinds of pieces too. :)
I love those fun poems......I sometimes get a bit lost in "too serious" poems....

Aren't we all slaves to something? This "fun" one may be more serious than what you thought...:P

True. And I did try to write it in a way that was vague enough that it could apply to many different.. read more
