I couldn’t find him today in the threads of my sweater or in the holes between my thighs. I thought he might be hiding under my pores waiting to seep out of my skin with pus and blood so he could leave that red spot that doesn’t go away no matter how hard I scrub it. I could peel off my skin and look under my breasts and find his frame curled up in the space between my lungs and the squishing and sloshing of my heart beating too slow. There is so much blood and carbon dioxide rushing into the holes in my brain that I made when I tried to snag his face out of there with my fishing hook and a stick I found in my backyard. Just wait until I fall still on the floor and he crawls out from under my toenail and scuttles away and I’ll be left here with my swollen head and bleach on my breath.
