Freshly Awakened

Freshly Awakened

A Poem by LadyAnn68
"

A husband and father waking up in the morning with love...

"

Freshly Awakened

The chirping of springtime sparrows

The rustling of ground leaves in the wind

The fiery red-gold ball signaling tomorrow is here

And the Earth’s gentle rotation in its spin

Smell of fresh brewed coffee permeating the air

A soft meek “meow” from the kitten

Curtains open to the ivory cream morning

And a smile on your lips…smitten

Propped up on elbows in the moment

Let yourself lay back in the night’s dream

Wallow in the happy essence

Family in place like a well oiled machine

Hear the footsteps coming up the stairs

Knowing she comes with a smile on her lips

A tray with coffee, paper, and a daffodil

Descends with a full blown good-morning kiss

Her voice a rhapsody ever so sweet

“Good Morning, My love” she says without fear

For the briefest fleeting of moments you think

Do I want to go to work or make love to her and stay here?

Your 3 yr old child pops in … "Hi Daddy”, she booms

Her voice demanding and with a shake

She bats her lashes and kisses your cheek

You dissolve in the love and know you’re awake!

“Good Morning, sweet-stuff” you reply!

Such a great movie to watch... a terrible dream to awaken from...

There is little room now for dreamers... and dreaming. Eating is a broken habit for many and time a luxury past remembrance. You have to run to stay in place and even then is no guarantee regardless of how good you are ...or were. Getting older also lessens your worth - cept to family with nowhere to turn. Hell of a time to live within.

This was fantastic my friend. I really felt like I was a part of this. I love it from beginning to end and it is just perfect that the 3 year old pops in...isn't that the way it always works. That is what is so real and beautiful about this piece...it is life.

Excellent word picture. Your use of vivid adjectives and a subtle, gentle rhyme is quite lovely.

I want to break into song, if I could only carry a tune. 'oh, what a wonderful morning!', there's a bright golden haze around your poetry. :-)
