Artistic Style

By: Lalli

There are all sorts of writing techniques,

Each creating a unique originality to ones style

Some people will say to be organized

Teachers will encourage the use of structure,

Like keeping to a format, a, b, a, b, a

Use an outline,

Or that writing with rhyme wouldn’t be suggested unless you’ve mastered it

I say write, however you feel is best for you

If you wanna use free verse do it

If you wanna use  rhythm and rhyme flow with it

If you wanna mix a bit of free verse with rhyme

Be my guest but write from the heart!

That’s the beauty of poetry

There is no definitive way to write it

People will try to confine what works

What’s noticed

Appreciated and what’s hot

But if you’re writing for them

Then your writing for the wrong reasons

Unless your trying to catch their attention

Draw them in to your opinion and open a mind or 2

But even then, there’s a perfect harmonious blend to that

because it still must be unmistakably fresh from your soul

Making it undeniable

As you’re stripping away your clothing

piece by piece by piece

With each word that you read

Exposing complete nakedness

This will inevitably captivate your audience

They will respect what you have to say

Because your actions prove that not only do you truly believe it

But you feel it from deep down inside and to keep it restricted

Creates a sense of internal combustion

Leading to why it’s important to search hard for that string

At the center of your core and listen

To its vibrations

Becoming in tune with your inner being

Tapping into your inner feelings

And you will be able to express yourself exactly how it’s felt

But make sure to think outside the box

At all the perspectives

Down to every emotion running through your body

Expanding on its intensity

As if you’re a twisted Dr. Kevorkian

Experimenting with bringing life to words

Dressing them prepped for the surgical table

Instruments of metaphors, similes and analogies will be used

In a complex procedure called,

“Methasimiphanalogy!”

And voila!

With no less than… well… that long

You will have cosmetically changed forever plain words

Into an attractive appearance

Now for me, my style seems to be a moment of poetic ejaculation;

An orgasmic experience

When even if I fought with resistance

I’d still splurge in loads of epiphanies

Creatively all over the paper

This is when the most genuine of what’s within me

Cums out full force without allowing me a second thought

See, No body taught me how to write

I used my own observations and self reflections

I listened to others feedback

Critiquing my work, since everyone is a critic

Especially artists

Most people will get defensive by nature

I… I stay open minded

Listening intently hanging on to every word

Some I agree with, some of which I don’t…

But by trying out these other avenues suggested

opinions I straight forwardly requested allows room to grow

Evolve

Developing my talented writing abilities to further levels of advancement  This only comes from choosing which ones work best

Helping me to improve beyond a point I could never see

Each person is but one pixel of billions on a TV screen

All with different perceptions and ideas

Try to conceive how much more incredible of a world would it be

If we all took the time to express sharing our own experienced truth

Providing the opportunities to learn from one another

Illuminating what was once blacked out

With vibrant colors

That was needed to see the bigger picture

I couldn't agree with you more. I have always felt as if I was forced into writing in a specific rhyme pattern, as you can see from much of my work. But lately I have learned that it doesn't matter how you write, just as long as you write what you think and feel, as you say, what is in your heart. I had several free verse pieces that I just let flow from me straight tot he screen, unfortunately when Charles hit the wrong button I lost them all as they were not backed up. I felt they were some of my best pieces, because they were just straight from me to everyone who wanted to read them. They were into forced into little boxes or specific styles of a.b.a.b. However those styles do work for some people. I have had great works that were structured in that way, but I don't think they were as good as others.
Whichever works for you is how it should be done.

Agreed in every aspect that I can. One thing I love about writing, is you are free to do what you want with your words. Structured or not. I like free style, just letting my soul flow. It works for me. I am not much for being a critic. Every word, every letter that a person writes is a inclination of ones soul. To deny ones soul the freedom of choice in style, is denying oneself.

And just a note, I love this part. "Methasimiphanalogy!"
