Before you leave tell me the story

Of the way it used to be

Back before you broke my heart

This wasn't meant to last

Just let your heart ignore the future

And peer into the past

Before this man you're seeing now

That you say you'll love forever

Back before he came along

And it was you and me together

Before you turned your back on me

And made me feel defeated

Back before you promised your love

Then you went out and cheated

I need to know the reasons why

Before I'm able to grieve

So tell me why you broke my heart

Just once, before you leave

It always seems to be the one question that never gets an honest answer, if it did, moving on would be easier.

Good use of descriptive imagery to create the emotion with a sense of helplessness woven through the narrative. Nice abab rhyme scheme applied to your quatrains.
