Each time you smile, I lose myself

You took my breath away

I swallowed my pride each time you left

While begging you to stay

You even burned my hopes and dreams

They vanished in the smoke

With all the promises you ever made

One by one you broke

I gave you comfort when you were sad

You took away my joy

The trust I gave was yours to keep

That trust you would destroy

I gave you all that I could to give

You took advantage of me

I forgave you at least a thousand times

You took too long to see

I gave you every piece of my heart

You stood and watched it break

But I don't think that's what they meant

A good length for a poem. Not too long; not too short, either. It's a touching piece of art and is relatable to many in committed relationships. Fortunately, my own relationship with my fiance is not like this. However, this is an unfortunate reality for many couples.
