Watching

Watching

A Poem by Emily

I sit on the beach,
Watching out at the waves rippiling in on the lake,
I see the renters a couple cottages down,
The dads going out fishing with his boys,
All the memories come flooding through me.
The times out on the boat,
All the laughter and joy that used to fill my life,
The priceless father daughter time I got with my dad up here,
I'll cherish every moment,
Every second I ever spent with him,
From the yelling and the fights to the hugs and I love yous,
He was my world, He was the perfect man all wrapped into one,
But he's gone,
Which makes me helpless and hopeless all in one.
I wish he'd just walk back through the door.
Just come home and tell us this was some sick joke.

The sense of loss you convey here is all pervading; and the detail, particularly the reference to the dads going out fishing with their boys, hits home like a hammer. I am fortunate, so fortunate that my father, who means the world to me, still looms large in my life.

I cannot imagine being without him.

Beccy.

Thank you, Cherish every moment you can! Memories will last a lifetime and I'm blessed I have a lot .. read more
This is such a sincere & heartfelt piece of reminiscing. It’s a great maneuver to start out describing this place where you once spent time together, but seeing thru the eyes of a nearby vacationer, & the longing comes thru loud & clear. I love the way you do your word portrait of dad in a way that shows he’s perfect & yet the relationship also had normal flaws – good balance (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Parents are irreplaceable. But thinking of your father and writing down memories of him means his spirit lives on. He is part of you forever

Losing a parent is the hardest life event to go through.
The pain leaves a permanent reminder.
