Brace yourselves

Brace yourselves

A Poem by Liyingbeni Humtsoe

Out in the countryside, off the road;
Under the roof of an old ranch house
Sits a girl in her old worn coat;
Staring into the midnight sky.

To the stars she speaks
Of the world she seeks.
To the moon she mutters
About her life in the gutters.

In the city, the heart of fortune;
Under the metalled roof of a building
Sits a boy with a guitar in hand to tune;
Staring into the midnight sky.

To the stars he speaks,
Of the calmness he seeks.
To the moon he mutters
About his life behind the shutters.

"I want to leave this all behind"she'll say
But she cannot, to her dismay.
"I want to live a different life" he'll declare
But the people around him just won't care.

So brace yourselves
And fasten your seat belts
For the cycle of life is a strange one
Where not everything is brightened by the rays of the sun.
