A Poem by Maxwell Ryder
"

Written April 1, 2016

"
As you let my hand go,
You shook your head 'no'
It felt as if a door
Had let in a gust of cold,
Flushed half-way down
My esophagus,
Stopping to revel
Around my heart's nodes,
Nearly dislodging my soul.
The pangs of ingesting
Your rejection
Left me arrhythmic
As never before
From our lost connection,
Which I could not compel
Her chambers to beat in unison
Until I met another vixen;
Then it beat bold, in tempo,
And in a rapture,
Raged like a tempest,
Or a mounted bull, to and fro,
For the fairest of mistresses
Ever witnessed or known.
Loss had brought me princely gain
Afterward, you were never missed again,
Nor became the fairy tale to girls told.

Your poem makes it appear as if love is fleeting and I have no concrete argument against that. Why cry when we know something just as good is around the corner. I think as a whole it had a great flow that's hard to duplicate. Very well written poem.

wow, your first several lines are insanely good. and I really like the turn it took into a happy ending.
just when you think you are doomed someone comes along to make you smile again.
who needs fairy tales with that kind of reality? anyway, really great poem.

Your rejection left me arrhythmic ...... wonderful description. I am sure many can identify with this. But perhaps it was never meant to be, because the 'I' in the poem met 'the fairest of mistresses, ever witnessed or known.' I love the way you personify the heart.
