Serial housewife

Serial housewife

A Poem by Maxwell Ryder

She can hook
With the best
Of women
Who stand
Under the
Street lamps,
Under the
Night sky -
She’s a serial
Housewife.
She marries
Then dumps them.
Her social security
Is to con another
Into her web,
Donning
Older Jims
She weds;
She grounds,
She pounds;
She goes
around town,
Making a mockery
Of phony vows
Till another man
Kowtows to her
Open bed,
To make the same
Mistake again,
Flooding her account
With pensions.
Money.
Warm seed.
It runs in the genes,
Her mom liked
Men named “Dick”.

I hate to admit this now, but I've dated an inordinate number of men named "Tom" (the character of which causes me to now avoid men named "Tom")! This is a delightful little ditty. It reminds me of true crime stories where someone has killed off several spouses before anyone sees the pattern. I love your caustic flippant details, so rare & hilariously biting. I also love this line: "her social security is to con . . . " This is the kind of hilarious scorn I've come to love from you (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Margie, you are the best. I agree, no more Toms! Rather, go for a Dick or a John. Cheers, Maxwell

Sounds as though she has a psychological problem, or probably, she inherited it. Did she choose this behavior? Or did life force her into it? Your short sharp lines seem like punishment, or are they just a sad account of her sorry life?
